Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Fly BA CE more often and your heart will sink further, or it would for most people.

I read a number of posts in the same tone from the same person before I made my comment. You can't say the same as I only made one.

Do we know if there is a date for a more normal service? Seen some pics of the Iberia offering today for LHR-MAD and it knocks BA out of the water - a decent main, a decent sized Caprese salad to start and a small cheesecake for dessert.
Never thought I'd see the day when IB were better than BA!

I flew last week with Iberia in PE. The food in PE was excellent and the quantity was bigger than CW meal. Proper salad and dessert with cheese as well. Light meal in PE was pretty much the same as CW. A small sandwich with a muffin and drinks.

While the quality/quantity or the starter (few leaves of lettuce, two slices or cucumber and three gratings of carrot) + dessert (some random flavour of angel delight with a chocolate button on top) leave something to be desired, at least the mains are popular and filling, and the addition of a salad. The current mains of lamb shepherds pie / gnocchi / cauliflower + barley salad are quite decent. The salad is actually very nice.

KSML rest of day meal LHR - MAD

I ordered the KSML meal for todays BA462 LHR - MAD, departing 1500.

Starter: avocado, green beans and pine nuts in a fresh citrus dressing with a hint of orange (to my palate anyway)

Main: roast duck leg with a light tomato based sauce and what I think was a slice of mango. Herbed parmentier potatoes and green beans.

Dessert: Chocolate mouse with Duchesse style choux pastry, ie. Little swirls.

Starter was v pleasant, good balance of textures and the dressing made the avocado not feel too rich. Would eat again.

Main was v v tasty, one of if not the best CE mains I’ve ever had. I would happily eat it at a Côte Brasserie. V moist and flavourful duck, well seasoned potatoes, although they weren’t crisp, and crunchy beans. Altogether I was extremely satisfied with the dish and it went v well with a couple of red wines.

Dessert: wasn’t really in the mood at this point and just had a bite. It was ok / pleasant, but nothing to write home about. Certainly the weakest of the meal.

This was my first time ordering a KSML meal. I don’t have any religious reason for ordering, but it has seemed the best option recently. I wouldn’t hesitate to order it again. I thought the quality was a noticeable step up from the normal BA meal.

I would say the shepherds pie and gnocchi are OK at best, agree the salad is better, but they’ve been on my last 8 sectors (save for one. Which was a pretty decent chicken pie…) and Im getting really really annoyed now. I am fully understanding of the financial challenges, but feel free to add £5 to the CE ticket price in return, BA!

Looks like the KSML is potentially the way to go. At this rate BA will be serving more of these than EL AL!

This is the veg salad alternative on late October JTR - LHR given how disappointing I find the chicken pie on a route of that length. Filling enough, tasty enough - would still expect more on a 3 hrs 50 mins actual flight time.

That salad is one of my favourite airline dishes of any I’ve eaten over the years, it’s really very tasty. But I agree, it’s suitable for a short flight, not at all on one as long as UK-Greece.

CE Continental breakfast today on LHR-MAD
Croissant was but soggy and impossible to cut in half, otherwise quite adequate.
As a comparison Air Nostrum meal of some sort on MAD-CMN
Cheese pasta which despite the looks was very tasty and quite filling. Other option was unspecified fish, as I was the only one in J I couldn't peek what it looks like.
Salad was meh and some weird aftertaste on the cake. No G&T, options were red wine, white wine, vodka and two sorts of beer.

Here’s another photo of the spinach gnocchi. This was on BA 457 MAD-LHR (788). I thought it was tastier than it looked. Salad was uninspiring and could have used olive oil or something. Didn’t touch dessert or bread roll. Drink service with nuts was first. Everything hand run.
