Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

The breakfasts have gone down in quality on Eurostar. For morning travel you might as well be in Standard premier where you'll get pastries and bread, and things to spread on them. The rest of the day meal is about the same size and quality of a band 2 meal.

BA890 LHR-SOF 01/12 08:10d - Band 4 breakfast.
Continental breakfast (had bacon in the lounge). No menus which I think is standard for breakfast. Someone asked whether there was spinach in the cheese omelette, which apparently there was. The bircher muesli is better than I remember. And to whoever was asking yesterday the champagne bottle was opened before anyone asked for any so I think alcohol on a morning flight won't be an issue

In the end I decided with Eurostar as I live next to the station even though I would’ve preferred to bag the TPs.

As a point of reference, this is what a breakfast is like on the train. The main was really bland and lacked flavour and overall much prefer the CE offering.

I’m looking at the little yellow box in the bottom right hand corner.

Raymond Blanc came up with this??

BA891 SOF-LHR 01/12 14:25d Rest of the day Band 4.
Lamb Shank. No menus but the options were the same as a couple of posts up. The cheeses were still wrong though .

Just done GLA-LGW, BA2515 1330, excellent service by the CSM in club, drinks service and nuts priory to the meal and then a choice of a smoked Mackeral plate or roasted vegetables with feta and quinoa, we had the latter and it was very pleasant indeed.

EDITED: Apologies. Tagged the wrong post and can't seem to change. Meant for alex67500 's message

I had exactly the same menu on the way to HEL and back the other day, and we were given menus in both directions. They do exist for breakfast but it seems are either less likely to be loaded or the crew are less motivated to give them out. Case in point I had another Band 3 recently where no menus were given out in either direction.

As an aside aren't the menus supposed to be different between Band 3 and 4. I'm sure they used to be or am I mistaken? Or is this a one off? If not it smacks of subtle cost cutting through further attempts at menu / catering simplification.

At the risk of going further off topic it feels like the pre-dinner drinks run is getting ever less frequent or have I just been unlucky recently. I personally liked the routine of drinks / nuts followed by meal / wine. Now ever more frequently the service seems to be going AA style with meal first and one drink. And then a "is there anything more I can get you at the end of the meal". I know it makes for less work for the crew but on a long sector there should no excuse for this (I guess unless CE is unusually large, so beyond row 7)

Last week on a long and boring Band 4 route this was exactly what happened, except there was no offer of anything else at the clear-in stage. The crew then retreated behind the curtain and emerged only grudgingly to answer additional requests. On a long route there’s no excuse, it’s just crew laziness. Interestingly my husband recalled the CSM from a flight earlier in the year and said it was exactly the same then.

I too have noticed a lower frequency of offer of pre-meal drinks rounds on longer sectors. On anything over 3 hours this is inexcusable even with a 12-row CE cabin IMO.
It's also nice to delay the meal a bit, rather than AA style as you say where you're done 45 minutes into the flight and left pottering around for a further 2-3 hours. The older starter-then-mains was appreciated for this reason. Conscious that others may disagree as they may want to get the table cleared away so they can sleep/work/etc.

ENTP. I couldn't agree more. For those of us who ply the longer bands and like a slower service, the routine of drinks / nuts, then starter, then main, that was the routine only a few years ago was the pinnacle of the product in recent years. At least in my view. It has definitely changed for the worse in the interim. I mean I don't mind having the choice of the cold, third option but when it's exactly the same main as that offered on a 1 hour domestic then it just doesn't work quantity wise - and I don't believe I'm a glutton. Take away my pre-dinner drink / nuts in addition and treat a Band 3/4 as if it was an express run to MAN and I'm not a happy camper. To be fair there are still crews who follow the old pattern and are amazingly pro-active. But as so often it's the variability in the service that is BA's biggest achilles heel.

I agree. It is one of the best VGMLs on BA I would say.

Sure the girl next to me just had that, but she left most of it.

Breakfast menu from this morning's LHR-HEL. Didn't eat anything as I ate in the CX lounge.

Forgot to take a picture of the menu for the return, but had the tiny bit of (smoked) salmon with a prawn, avocado, Tiramisu etc.
Complete mish-mash to be honest. Not even sure what one or two bits were.

That menu card is in the second half of #1469 . There's celeriac salad on the bottom right, smashed avocado on tomatoes in the middle, and some kind of branch celery and apple slaw next to the prawn. I think.

LGW-MLA, BA2644, 1410.

Had the chicken, very good too. Nice and moist, mash and starter tasty and plenty of it. Lots of comments from crew and other passengers over the improved quality with the new caterer. Crew were top notch too.

Looking forward to trying the new menu, got very bored of the feta and tomato starter and roast chicken.
