Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

BA 778 LHR-ARN November 2019

November 2019
British Airways Club Europe
BA 778 London Heathrow to Stockholm

Choice of British Roast Chicken, runner beans, garden peas, potato risotto, thyme jus, ravioli or cold meat platter, Mediterranean courgette, Parmesan, olive oil, celebration of British cheese: Red Leicester and Cropwell Bishop Blue cheese with fig chutney and crackers (sourdough crisps), and DO & CO dark chocolate mousse w/caramelized orange zest

I had the chicken main course, which was fine.

Honestly I prefer a real risotto to this potato stew in cream sauce

I'm guessing for the most part, those who partake in the inbound mini breakfast will be oblivious as to how an outbound breakfast will vary.
If that is what you call a mini breakfast, I would be very interested to know what you deem is a larger, more acceptable breakfast.

If I ate that amount of food for breakfast everyday, I would gain 10kg, which I certainly do not need.

The larger tray as per outbound
Tray items consistent to the outbound offering

I fully appreciate the main choices need to take into consideration the ambient nature of overnight storage on board but that was a business decision by BA to return cater and not to pick up catering at outstations. It was also a BA business decision to densify galley space in favour of seats. That shouldn't come as detriment to the Club passenger who's already paying for the privilege of an enhanced service.

I consider breakfast as probably the weakest meal offering any airline can offer. What BA provides on the whole is on par or better than others (IB dish up some pretty horrific brekkies and what LH offers on the whole in Europe is quite frankly pathetic). It just seems in my experience the inbound breakfast on flights that have night-stopped away from base is inferior, that's all.

As much as I'd love a full English every day, it is very much a treat so I'm very much with you on that front!

You do know what enhanced means in BA-English, right?

More seriously though, your whole post is saying that BA's breakfast offer is better than most of the competition it has in Europe, which means they don't even need to make any kind of effort.

Actually Love - I had the smoked Salmon last week and it was delicious. It ran out by Row 3 - the full English ran out by Row 6.

On another note - there were 32 in Club and we got through 7 bottles of Champagne.

Flying back from ARN in September, I was in 2A and wanted the smoked salmon breakfast but it had run out by the time they reached me!

I am fairly certain that they load 3 or 4 on Board. The CSM (excellent by the way) had another crew member as there were so many in Club, the crew member was hand carrying the meal trays and was telling the CSM what was needed. That's how I knew as I was in 1C.

That looks amazing! Was that maybe a longer flight? I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere before.

7 bottles on a morning flight, #YOLO

Only my in opinion. I just happen to enjoy a hot breakfast but others tastes will vary and for this reason it will always be subjective. IB hot breakfasts are terrifying and you don't even qualify for hot main on LH.

The point I was (trying to) make is there's a marked difference on a breakfast served inbound on a first service of the day than that served outbound from London. They could cater the outbound to the small trays and contents standard to bring everything in line and I'm of the mind this will probably happen at some point.

It’s a gratin. I wish BA would learn 🙄

Is that the grilled courgette starter? 🤢

No a gratin would have a layer on top to "seal" the contents off during its time in the oven.

Someone was commenting earlier saying that there actually was some rice hidden in the potatoes somewhere, which means it does qualify as a risotto. If you're not Italian or a foodie of any sort...

Maybe I should have called it an attempt at a gratin 🤣

LGW - ALC - Band 3 Catering. I really did hesitate but then thought - why not? Sometimes those cooked breakfasts look as though they packed as much greasy food as they could on a plate. I love a cooked breakfast but dare not or I'd end up looking like Madame Michelin- Bibendum. I used to love them when I was flying, but I was burning calories getting everything done!

Gratin is a dish in which an ingredient is topped with a browned crust, often using breadcrumbs, grated cheese, egg or butter.

How you brown anything in an oven when it's got foil on is quite beyond me! - and you clearly!!!

The dairy component is clearly the puddle of congealed fat floating on the top 😂
