Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

A Caesar salad DUB > LHR swimming in sauce. Added to the starter and dessert, this was far too creamy for me.

[QUOTE=MarkedMan;31710729]Not bad, what was the other option?

The other options were pasta or salad. Potato risotto was diced potato in a thick creamy sauce. Quite nice really.

Has Madrid moved to Band 2 again?
No menus, choice of one cold or one hot main, Champagne in quarter bottles...

Band 2 wouldn't get any hot meals after breakfast. I know they did get a lot of pushback from crew about the difficulty in servicing a full CE cabin (or even First + CW cabin) so management did undertake to tweak it. The quarter bottles would be an example of a time-saving tweak. I guess (if this was MAD to LHR) you were offered cod or chicken salad?

Perhaps they were out of 1of3 choices by the time they got to you? Menu cards may not have been loaded or may not have corresponded to the catering that was loaded but should have been handed out, although with such precise numbers of main options loaded I can also see why crew may decide not to hand menus out (saves you from disappointment when the popular option has gone by row 2 and saves the crew from the embarrassment/confrontation in breaking the sad news). As for the fizz, I actually prefer the quarter bottles as you get more than a glass full from them (saves asking for top ups as frequently). Madrid is still very much a Bad 3 catered service.

LHR-MAD, parma & mozzarella salad
The hot meal was chicken & potatoes or something like that.

Row 10 (first row on this 77W) so doubt it! It just felt a bit 'off' as I hadn't flown BA in CE on this route in a while, and it reminded me of when MAD was a band 2 route about 18 months ago (I almost always go for the cold option anyway).

A bit off then I'd say if you weren't offered all the options.
The only thing I'll say is that the cold option is always identical to a band 2 main so if you almost always go for this it will be the same as what you were used to when it was band 2 (2 cold choices) v band 3 (2 hots, 1 cold).

Is there ever any flexibility on the departure times to determine which meal is offered? I'm booked on BA767 (OSL-LHR) on a Saturday next month, which is scheduled as 16:55 departure. However, BA767 the day before is scheduled as a 17:05 departure. Assuming OSL is Band 2 (according to this thread), does the meal served on that flight switch between afternoon tea and dinner depending on which day of the week it is?

Meal service is determined by the scheduled time of departure. A Band 2 flight scheduled to depart at 16:55 will get the Afternoon Tea service, a flight scheduled to depart at 17:00 will get the Dinner service.

Yes, I can confirm. One of my frequent flights similarly has departure time that similarly changes by a few minutes that straddle two different meals and each day sees the meal corresponding to the specific departure time.

Does anyone know if they carry Angostura bitters on the CE bar trolly? I fancy knocking up a DIY Champagne cocktail, I’m a good horse and bring my own sugar lumps 🙂.
