Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Just completed four short haul flights with Lufthansa in Business. I can honestly say I looked longingly at the BA plane as I boarded my final Lufthansa flight from the gate opposite. There was no choice of meals and the food was poor. No champagne and terrible (superthin) seats. WiFi didn’t work on any flight. Lounges were like canteens.

Just thought I’d say, given the criticism BA gets on here.

Seems Lufthansa is still struggling with discontent at the LSG catering unit then. LH are trying to offload it, but facing a strong reaction from LSG staff who want to stay as part of LH. Weird way of showing their loyalty to LH by making it difficult for LH to offer decent food and service. You should read the tales of woe over on the LH boards.

This is the meal i got for FRA-LCY in C with Lufthansa. As far as i know you dont get any options but the food quality is usually very good and also i have flew twice in the last year with BA in C and both times only 1 option was available out of 3... Their lounges usually have Do & Co food which tends to be quite good. Champage was served last time i flew but nothing special. Cant comment for the wi fi. Never use it. Seats are pretty much the same in any intra europe flight with any airline to be honest.

LHR-OSL (Band 2)
Dinner
February 2019

This was really good. The side salad was pretty decent too, although the dessert (banoffee pie) terribly low quality mush.

The alternative was a tomato and mozzarella salad.

OSL-LHR (Band 2)
Afternoon Tea
February 2019

This was all fine, just too small though for one of the longest Band 2 flights at 2 hours.

The alternative was the ploughman’s salad.

These were the positioning flights for my trip to Singapore in February. You can read all about that trip here:
Singapore via Qsuite and the World’s Most Audacious First Class Lounge

LHR - ARN dep 1120, band 3.

No menus offered, this was “the pasta”. This rather dry dish was freshened up somewhat by decanting the lettuce & tomato starter over the top of it.

Is the item on the bottom right some sort of dried meat? I assume what’s above it is cured salmon or gravlax? And what was the chutney (?) with the cheese on the left?

My! Doesn't that look succulent.

I'm surprised that they didn't stick a bar of Milka on the tray.

Folks, as (un)appetising as “other airlines food” may be, this is the “Club Europe Catering Guide”, so please focus on BA food in this thread.

BA422. LHR - VLC Dinner (All Day)

The “starter” was laughable A couple of bits of lettuce and a bit of Parmesan as decoration. At least there was a dressing.

I had the Pasta which was perfectly pleasant. HI didn’t want Curry so he had the Beef salad which he declared delicious. The cheese was pleasant, and the desert was fine. I’m more of a cheese than desert person.

I am delighted that the Nicolas Feuillate is now featured in the menu rather than the rather basic Castelnau. The reds did not feature the rather good Chateau de Ruth but a Primitivo which I thought tasted odd and switched for the Spanish. I have noticed that the crews are handing out the meals and not doing a drink run prior to that. As there were 10 row of Club on the way out I didn’t mind. On the way back there were 5 and with two crew I minded a tad more but it is probably among the shortest Band 3 routes so one must make allowances.

At the risk of having a Cadbury Egg thrown at me for wandering off topic, but to answer a question...

Swiss cabin crew come around with a basket of chocolates from Frey at sometime during the flight. I've had them bring them out early if the flight gets delayed.
