Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Had the Hindu vegetarian for my ce breakfast. Spicy scrambled egg, Bombay aloo, a nice side of green peas and an excellent whole red Chili pepper. To me a lot tastier than regular breakfast.

no yoghurt (I thought because it’s cow milk, but then they put real butter on the tray)

Hindus mostly eat dairy so butter and yogurt are fine, what they don’t eat is meat products or eggs, are you sure there was eggs?

it definitely seemed like scrambled egg (not good but they never are!) if it was something else i'll admit i have no clue what it may have been. And not sure why no yoghurt then as it would have been nice!!

The offering from ACE yesterday was far more appealing. Yours looks a bit dry around the edges

Had the alternative coming back from TIA today. This is the spinach gnocchi. I preferred this much more.

Hindu diets in my view are widely diverse. My cultural heritage is Indian and being raised as a Gujarati (northwest Indian) even though I was born in London. I have had my fair share of experiences of so called Indian food from around the world and much of it I detest unless it is home cooked. Whilst the general rule of thumb is vegetarian and that includes a no to eggs but it can vary depending on which part of India you are from as some will allow fish and other meats. Hinduism does not explicitly prohibit eating meat or eggs, but it does strongly recommend ahimsa – the concept of non-violence against all life forms including animals. The masala scrambled/omelette eggs is a popular dish and we eat it regularly at home with some fresh dahi and stuffed paratha... YUM.

I don’t think an omelette containing eggs would be served in a HNML/AVML (they are the same)?

I was just talking to my aunt and she thinks the dish in question is actually paneer bhurji. So it is basically using Indian cheese which has been crumbled and substituted for the egg.

Now I was today offered the Shepherd's Pie, Gnocchi, or some salad that sounded revolting. I had the Shepherd's Pie and can declare it delicious.

Have any of you asked for the Worcestershire Sauce to put on it? It gives it a super zing. They always have it in the bar for the Bloody or Virgin Marys. The salad is a joke but the dessert was not bad. Please bring back the cheese BA - that I do miss from the tray.

I will be glad when the recognise that Escoffier is so much better than Mrs Beaton. I wish also that they would bring Delia in - I have never had a dish of hers that I did not like, even if she undseasons everything

Funnily enough when I had the shepherds pie yesterday i thought it needed some Worcestershire sauce. It was a bit tasteless.

Sadly you are out of date, the content of the Hindu meal (HNML) was changed to vegetarian and exactly the same as the AVML, the reason being too many vegetarian Hindus were ordering the meal expecting it to be vegetarian when it normally contained chicken.
I believe that the Hindu meal code was kept as the other main religious groups had special meals and it was felt out of respect that Hindus should have their own.
