Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

i agree, I think that whole salad isn’t great and I wouldn’t choose it. I wasn’t eating on that flight and this was what my friend choose.

Does anyone know what I might get for Afternoon Tea in Band 1 (LHR-GVA, 16:35 departure) if I request Gluten Free?

An aircraft swop meant I ended up relegated from the first to last row so I was expecting whatever was left over, which is how it is sometimes. With proper ingredients the salad would have been fine and would have been my choice.

What was odd, and in the end rather amusing, was the way the service then ran. The CSD came wandering up the aisle carrying a seemingly errant tray burbling “‘Quinoa salad’. Anyone want a ‘Quinoa salad?” With no apparent takers amongst the Gold brethren at the front or the Silver rows immediately behind them she got to Row 7 and me. ‘Quinoa salad’ proffered and duly accepted. Observed general disgruntlement amongst Silver Row denizens as it dawned that the blessed salad was the only grub now available (the salmon alternative apparently having proven popular with the Gilded ones). Cue an extended discussion with dissatisfied punters. Finally a drink order was taken, the wine turning up long after ‘Quinoa salad’ had been abandoned to its fate.

Wine swiftly dispatched, I waited patiently - well, for all of five minutes - for the chance to request a top up. CSD and Other Crew Member faffing around chatting with contented looking salmon munchers up front. Press call bell, which I dislike doing, in an attempt to procure beverage. Unanswered. CSD now engaged in deliberation with passenger over copy of High Life Shop magazine. Press call bell again. Ignored. Trays remain mouldering with uneaten ‘Quinoa salads’. High Life Shop duty passed to Other Crew Member to resolve. CSD begins collecting glasses, individually, with each one ceremoniously conveyed to the galley. OCM dealing with prolonged ‘High Life Shop saga’. Third Crew Members joins in. CSD makes stately progress toward the Siberia of row 7. Call bell light still illuminated. Request for second glass of wine finally made to CSD. Glass wordlessly collected. CSD disappears into galley. I wait. And wait. No sign of beverage. Call bell light still illuminated. High Life Shop Fandango finally concludes. 15 minutes to landing announcement. All hopes of additional beverage extinguished, I quietly expire.

I think it would be easier if I just gave up drinking

That's Quinoa? They look more like green lentils to me. You clearly had one of LGW's more laid-back CSMs. What a way to do service.I'd have lost patience after the first five minutes. Remember that the bell may not always be heard the first time. Go on pressing it and pressing it again until someone comes - that's rubbish service.

I watched the whole thing with a certain detached amusement. Ordinarily I would just go the galley ask for another but on this occasion the aisle seat was occupied by an earnest type hunched over a keyboard who I don’t think would have welcomed the intrusion. Plus, of course, one doesn’t want to look like a total derelict who can’t survive a ninety-minute flight on one glass of wine.

This isn’t the first meal I’ve had recently which suggested a backsliding in the quality of the catering ex-LGW. There’s a vegetarian breakfast option doing the rounds which is purportedly poached eggs with cheese-on-toast (or something like that) that is shall I say a challenge to get down. I wish they’d bring back the cheese omelette with chive sauce that was faithfully doled out for years. Perhaps I’ve just been unlucky?

SVQ-LGW rest of day meal 26/01

This is the ham hock, which was very nice and quite filling.

I overheard the crew saying that only 2 of the smoked salmons were loaded (for 6 rows of CE).

Yes, it is, and frankly unless something has changed in the last year, they are grim. I can’t find any SPML afternoon tea service that avoids sandwiches, I have given up trying that method of avoiding them. Gluten free and AVML were particularly terrible.

Sorry, what are "sarnies?"

Previously I read a suggestion that asking for Kosher might get me a nice salad plate with lox. I was served a plate with three meat or egg sandwiches, no ham or bacon of course, and no cheese. And no milk for my tea, nor clotted cream for the scone ( which did not matter as I could not eat the scone anyway, but my husband might have liked it).

Sarnies are sandwiches. As far as I can tell (and I've really tried), all the SPML afternoon tea options will result in sandwiches generating varying levels of despair. The options, if you wish to avoid sandwiches, are:

1. Avoid afternoon tea timed flights.
2. Sit as far forward as possible and get the Ploughmans, if that is something you can/will eat.
3. Fly to/from LCY where possible, it doesn't do afternoon tea (you do get scones and cream/jam)
4. Eat before or after the flight and pass on the food.

Thanks. Sounds like the sarnies are not worth asking for? Ploughman's would be fine; I can pick through that and eat what I can. We are in Row 2. Is there a chance of getting it?

i will bring along some snack food just in case.

Some people like sandwiches / rolls, I don't eat much bread these days so try to avoid. I think the normal afternoon tea sandwiches taste ok, but they are quite small and obviously carb-heavy.
