Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Perfectly adequate
Thanks for posting. Just to note there would never be menus on a short route like AMS, it's only the longer band 3 & 4 routes which get menus.

I reckon menus would save time. The whole process of taking orders and heading back to the galley after each pair of seats looked completely inefficient and just added to the rush as we descended into AMS.

that’s one way of doing it. Tbh the usual method is to use the trolley in the aisle and serve from there. In my experience a good organised crew will always complete the service well within time.

That probably says more about the efficiency of service delivery led by the cabin manager on your specific flight and deviating from service delivery standards than anything fundamentally wrong with the order of service. IMO, a menu card will just introduce an additional layer of disappointment when there's no preferred meal choice left. I don't think they're particularly helpful even on longer flights let alone on short express and band 1/2. Imagine the disappointment and delays to service when passengers learn that the salmon has run out, rather than just accepting the quinoa salad offered to them. The crew on your flight IMO should have just got the trolleys out and delivered passenger trays as soon as possible rather than faffing about with row by row and 2 at a time delivery. Fine on a longer sector, completely ineffective on a 40min hop to AMS.

DBV-LGW

Flying from LGW for the first time in years this summer! DBV-LGW departure time has been changed to 10:55 , which from the guidance given should be a band 3 ‘rest of day’ meal. From peoples experience do these ‘border’ line flights always fall into the correct band ? (you could argue 10:55 is beyond borderline I guess!) I do remember in the days of Y class catering that the 09:55 from MAN-LHR which should have been a ‘ hot breakfast roll’ flight at the time, was put into the crisps/bird seed band. Like wise on some other LHR routes, in club Europe I remember receiving afternoon tea, on flights that had just passed into the dinner band. Anyone had recent experience of these subtle changes or is this a thing of the past?

the band list at the start of the thread is fairly reliable.

i must admit in the days of UK domestic I thought breakfast rolls finished at 0930?

Thanks for the reply, you may well be right, I couldn’t be certain, but I’m pretty sure I remember expecting one thing and getting another on flights around 10mins either side of whatever the cut-off at the time was. It Looks like this could be a thing of the past now, or maybe it was my poor memory all along!

Oh Petal! Has that nasty airline disappointed you again? Did you eat your crusts when you were little?

Auntie Pucci would have had the cod as I am very partial to fish. What A good job they didn’t try and palm me off with a flaccid piece of old smoked pig

There’d have been ructions!

Think I agree with you - the choices aren’t good at all. And I have no idea what the starter would taste like...

VGML special meal LGW

I find that BA has increased the quality of their vegan meals recently.

I flew today from London Gatwick to Gran Canaria.

Main: some sort of sweet potato curry with fried onions and cashew nuts
Sides: different melons with spiced cashew nuts + dried fruits and nuts with celery
Dessert: fruit salad with dragon fruits.

Overall a very tasty and healthy meal that is a welcome change from the fat and sugar filled usual Club Meals.

Indeed, though I think occasionally people get confused if they have flown the route to/from LCY as you get a menu then.

These days CityFlyer is the same as mainline, when it comes to menus: band 3 and 4 only.

Though of course the same route may be banded differently on BACF and mainline, so would have menus on one but not the other.
