Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Bonus pic is of the hot smoked salmon with potato, horseradish & chive salad, not the Waldorf one.

The braised beef looked a bit like catering were playing "design a flag with food". The meat was tasty and tender, but the sauce was oversalted. The chocolate orange dessert is nice, like a whole packet of Jaffa Cakes has been distilled down into a concentrated pot.

The fact that a customer on the outbound sent back their hot smoked salmon because it wasn't what they expected, and that on the way back the crew were at pains to tell everyone that "the hot smoked salmon is a cold salad" suggests that the menu writer really needed to have put a hyphen between "hot" and "smoked".

And the ham hock tasted awfully of chicken. "Teething problems with our new caterers", said the suitably apologetic cabin crew.

The cheeses had been cut slightly longer than the diameter of the ramekin, so had been wedged into place and had to be levered out

ARN-LHR (Band 3)
Rest of the Day
May 2019

I had the cod, which was pleasant and filling, if a little salty. The small tray size is quite ridiculous.

I don’t like mozzarella, so the starter wasn’t for me, but the cheese was good, I enjoyed the crackers with it (or whatever they are), and the dessert was passable but a bit gloopy.

You can read the full report (for which this was the concluding flight) here:

LIS to LHR today. Welsh Lamb shepherds pie. Was super tasty but needed a gravy. Not sure what happened to the two cheeses. Just had one lump of brie. Overall satisfying.

ARN-LHR dep 1505

The requested chicken salad had run out (surprise surprise). All that was left was the gnocchi (surprise surprise).
Aka rim-spattered tomato-y mush.

Yuk.

Granted my Love - this is not a pretty sight and yes, one does wonder what might lurk beneath the surface. All that said, this is an airline meal. How would you have it served? Tipped from that pot as of old? I’m not a fan of gnocchi as I find that the best of them are like trying to chew lumps of wallpaper paste. I find them somewhat constipatory and need to drink gin to balance.

The other two thing that come to my never-to-be matured mind is

1) Did you actually taste it? Or just photograph it for our delectation?

2) Do you not have the status to be in Row 1 and thus have full choice? Or did not BA Know Who You Were and treated you less than your hallowed status permits. If this is the case I shall take my hairbrush and put curses on them. Next time I’ll sit next to you and feed you your dinner although I am aware that you are capable because someone told me. It might be wiser not to enlighten Mrs Oxon Flyer of my intentions.

Sensible Question Break. When is the next meal rotation due at LHR? Are they changed monthly or fortnightly these days?

31st Jan, BA756 LHR-BSL, 1910d

Described as cold meats with mozzarella. Only 7 or 8 people in three rows of CE. Had row 1 to myself, and was addressed by name the whole way (but that's for the other thread I guess). Trays were brought out first before drinks round, but that was actually very efficient since there were so few of us. Very nice service, all very natural and friendly. Top ups offered throughout, sadly I was driving on arrival.

I had the same Gnocchi a couple weeks ago. I actually thought it was quite good, although I’ll give you that mine did look more appetising!

Lovely salade niçoise

It would make my own life miserable, but if some relevant authority decided to ban British Airways from flying to/from Nice on the ground of the above, I'd have to admit that they were absolutely right and that BA would have no leg to stand on to ask for indulgence. Siggghhhh….

If that's Salad Nicoise - I Pucci am Marie Madeleine. Since when did Chicken go in such a dish.

This is my recipe from memory
  • 1 Large tin of Tuna (or Bonito in Spain ) fresh is even better
  • Plenty of Anchovies (I make my own salted here in Spain
  • 4 Ripe Tomatoes
  • Radish finly finely chopped
  • 2 red reppers
  • 1 Cucumber (option) I don't use it as it makes HI burp something cruel
  • 200 Green Beans (option)
  • 2 Boiled Eggs
  • 2 Spring Onions or Shallots
  • Olives
  • Basil
Over this you pour a dressing made with a pinch of salt, Lemon Juice and some Red Wine Vinegar, a little Dijon and Meaux mustard, and enough chopped garlic to ward off a flock of vampires. That sad, tired, wilting bit of salad does not cut it - you are once again quite right. This is a crime of lese-majesté

Fresh chalk stream trout and salmon work as a great alternative to tuna.
