Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

I had exactly this meal last night on LHR-DUB - the cauliflower and carrot salad.

Not a great choice on such a short sector, as everything in the main dish takes an age to chew properly. It's quite tasty though!

The definition of 'pie' in the culinary sense has been much debated. Here we are witnessing an edge case I hadn't previously considered.
The word 'deconstructed', in a food description, is usually translated as 'can't be *rsed'

Forgot to add this the other week. After an interesting trial of the KSML (TL;DR - lots of food, even more plastic, tasty but shame about the dairy substitutes) and at the suggestion of a CSD I opted for the AVML on a recent trip to Barcelona. I was served a delicious paneer makhani with rice and spinach. I love a curry on a plane, and this really hit the spot. Will be having it again tomorrow, touch wood. The other half is trying the vegan option ...

Don’t mean to be pedantic, but shepherd’s pie is lamb by definition. If it was beef, it would be cottage pie…

I would have thought that it is usually the reverse: deconstructed usually suggests trying too hard and messing up a normally nice dish into a pretentious pale imitation that misses the spot.

I’m glad I’m not alone! I’m not fond of egg, so the croissant is great for me.

  • British Airways is making improvements to its customer experience and reinforcing its commitment to put sustainability at the heart of its customer journey
  • The airline is introducing new plant-based menus across its lounges, removing single-use plastic bottles, installing water stations and offering colleagues training in sustainability
  • A premium pre-Covid meal service will be re-introduced in Club Europe with new menus and more variety from next month
  • Customers will also benefit from further investment in technology, including in a new bag tracing system
  • New check in zones exclusively for World Traveller Plus customers
From next month the airline is set to move to the next phase of its dining experience; a service more akin to one that customers would have experienced pre-pandemic. Customers travelling in the airline’s Club Europe cabin can expect a more premium service with new delicious menus with more options as it welcomes back its customers. The airline is also working on the next phase of its long-haul catering proposition, with exciting changes afoot.

BA Press Release this morning, new Club Europe menu from next month

Sorry I don't really see any improvement on this email.
I don't mind the lounge featuring plant-based food, as long as it is not replacing other meat and seafood based dishes.
I don't get the obsession with plant-based food. I want healthier food that is made of real and fresh ingredients and plant-based food does not equal healthy.
Honestly BA's long haul flights need improvement than short-haul flights as of this point. I want an announcement of restoration of full first and business class meals pre-Covid.

Plant-based food is not just about health. There are a variety of reasons why some people choose plant-based food. Apart from health, environmental considerations would be a growing factor in some people's decision to increase the proportion of plant-based food in their diet.

Time to get rid of the tray service in Club and offer a premium coffee/drinks type service instead? A croissant on a plate is not a premium product.
In the past, crew managed to serve a full English to a fully loaded 767 on Domestic flights with a seperate drinks run. It has been done, it can be done again. Not everyone can get to the lounge especially on the early departures.
Only once have I not been served on a Domestic. On that occasion, turbulence kept the cabin crew harnessed in place for over half the flight. Even then, we all got a drink.

Reference to pre-Covid meals in CE is a big positive IMHO. The proof will be in the delivery as always, but v much on the right track. I may cancel some of my KSMLs

i agree. The last version of the CE catering pre-covid was pretty good. Hopefully from March the missing bacon from the ‘full English’ will be restored, as well as the missing afternoon tea third sandwich, and the long band cheese course.

A full English even with missing bacon would be a welcome addition to domestic CE!
