Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

IMHO the plastic pot in which the dessert is served cheapens the look.

Thanks for posting FEMW. Just to clarify the menu cards only appear on bands 3/4. Express, band 1/2 never get cards.

Yes, these seem to have changed recently from rigid clear plastic pots to thin disposable ones. I agree they look cheap.

In my experience on the longer European routes where it's a hot meal, I find beef hardly plays a part. The only time it was an option was as a.... Yes you've guessed it... beef massaman curry! I'd actually welcome a l/h style beef dish if only for variation, although I'm guessing cost plays a part and the budget for a CE beef dish doesn't stretch to a CW one, even a scaled down portion size. Don't get me wrong, I'm partial to a curry now and then but when pretty much every menu rotation to/from Gatwick consists of a meat (usually chicken) curry, a pasta in a tomato sauce or a cold salad with a fishy element I'm finding it all rather same old same old. At least the catering to/from Heathrow seems to be slightly more varied. I have 2 longer band CE trips booked from Heathrow this summer and welcome a change of menu.

We rarely do longer CE trips ... one a year, Band 3 to MLA, is about the norm so we have very little experience. Endless Band 1 between JER and LGW, of course, where I very often dont bother/need to eat (like yestereve!). In the latter case, in my head, its more of a snack than a meal.

Completely agree. Given everything use is reusable plates, I don't see why this could not be in a nice glass bowl/dish.

It was originally a glass ramekin, but there were a high level of breakages, so it changed to the rigid plastic pot. Apparently there were supplier problems with that, so the flimsier plastic pots are now being used temporarily until a permanent solution is found. Knowing the glacial pace of change, it may take a while.

Hmm... from picking the only glasses in the airline industry which don't wash well in the dishwasher so that sadly, it is impossible to serve smoothies (no other airline affected) to the only glass ramequins that break so that sadly, they have to be replaced by cheap plastic (no other airline affected) not to the mention the only salt and pepper shakers that take too long to fill so that sadly, the ugly CW sachets had to make their unwelcome come back (no other airline affected), it seems that BA is being perennially unlucky with their choice of crockery.

Fortunately for us passengers, they always seem to know how to resolve this epic lack of luck by always going for cheaper, flimsier offerings than originally planned. I guess...

As long as the lid is provided, the plastic pot does make it easier to take-away the dessert.

Handy for a snack at the hotel?

Dare I highlight the case of the shattering United glass sundae bowls c. 2017 (Glass found in the ice cream, so no sundaes in Business. [Some Back: 2 June 2017]) took UA ~10 months to find a replacement and in the interim J pax received the Y ice cream (the horror)
