Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

The menu spells it “beef bourguignonne”.

Most people say bourguignon.

Which is correct?

I think that 'boeuf bourguignon' or 'boeuf à la bourguignonne' are the two most accepted descriptions (by the French, at least). They have probably been merged over time.

long-haul only?

...the airline has also launched a centenary edition afternoon tea including a scone, jam and clotted cream for a traditional cream tea experience in the air.
In a world first, Edinburgh based gin distillers, Pickering’s, have created a gin that has been specifically developed to be enjoyed at altitude. The 10-botanical blend is available on all short haul flights and through the High Life shop as part of a trio pack. Customers will also be able to enjoy an English white wine straight from the Kent countryside as Chapel Down’s 2018 Bacchus is added to the inflight menu. The wine has been bottled exclusively for British Airways

I wonder how many people in economy will be willing to pay for afternoon tea!

They could sell the spares from the front too to boost funds for Willie's bonus.

AVML on BA890 LHR–SOF this past Saturday:

I usually pick the AVML for breakfast flights but not being a fan of cauliflower, the change to having so much of it was rather disappointing. The channa masala was also a bit of disappointed as less flavourful than before. And, as always, the chapati was a big soggy having been in the sauce.

I worked for a company where our chairman had some involvement with Chapel Down and indeed I believe his sparkling wine was served by BA First for a time. But we were given a mixed dozen as a Christmas gift for a couple of years when Chapel Down was first starting. I remember the Bacchus then as fairly ordinary. And none of the other wines of those early vintages seemed to me anything other than passable. I'm sure the later vintages have improved and we were probably just used as a tax write off for those early days when nobody wanted to try English wine!

Good examples of Bacchus can be quite an enjoyable experience although not to everyone's taste. Only capable of making good rather than great wine though in my opinion. Bad examples are best avoided. Chapel Down isn't in the premier league of English Sparkling wine producers, but their still wines are not bad. They are going to release a sparkling Bacchus which I shall try out of interest.
