Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Thanks for posting the current LGW band 3 menus!
I'm assuming the menu featuring the curry is the outbound from LGW offering? Reference to shortages of chicken and there only being pasta or salad available a few posts further up from yours on a LEI-LGW sector lead me to think this is the case.

I fly band 3 LGW routes semi regularly (6-8 times a year) and I have to say I'm now bored of the hot offerings of curry or casserole, casserole or curry (as well as a pasta dish and a cold salad option). My experience appears to rotate on a similar theme each menu cycle.

No doubt these mains are cheap as chips to bang out but a little more inspiration a la LHR wouldn't go a miss.

I'm advance claiming a menu victory for my Band 3 LGW departure later today having pre ordered a Child Meal. Chicken nuggets and mash potato and peas. Not exactly fine dining but a true variation on Casserole or Curry which you are never ever able to escape to or from Gatters.

The curry was on the outbound menu. I suppose that since nearly all SH flights are return-catered, it could theoretically be on the menu in either direction, bitnone does tend to find curry more on outbound sectors. Can’t speak for the loading since I was in row 1 on both flights, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve been on afternoon tea flights when Ploughmans were loaded at below 25%, making row 1 a priority for me since I avoid afternoon tea if at all possible. .

My neighbour had the risotto on the outbound, it didn’t look too appealing. The salad with salmon looked fairly good, but I chose a hot option after so many band 2 flights without one...I don’t do that many band 3 flights, and most of those I do take are LHR.

HAM - LHR, I guess they call it afternoon tea?
Is it just me or is this meal a bit lame for a CE flight...
That nut cake thing was way too sweet for my taste.

The alternative would have been Ploughman which I tried before and was not really my thing (what's that with the covered egg thing? )

i think it is just a youghurt/Bircher tub
for band 2, there are some examples of band 2 breakfasts linked to in the wiki. The bars I have only seen on breakfasts from an outstation when catered as a nightstopper.

Evening flight LHR - HAM, they called it "Beef Carpaccio". Was not bad.
Alternative would have been Couscous with goat cheese which looked tasty from what I could see from my neighbors table.

they do indeed call it so. Many believe this to be the low point of BA short haul meals, though some like the idea at least together with appreciating the return of the scones, which had been disappeared for a few months. And yes, the cakes are way too sweet. If you "special meal" it to something overly healthy, like a low calorie or vegan, the cake will typically be replaced with cut fruit which, while making the meal even more miserly (sandwiches will also get a downgrade) is preferable to the cake thing you usually get IMO.

As for scotch eggs, they're boiled eggs, surrounded by very low rate sausage meat, covered in breadcrumbs, deep fried then allowed to congeal before eating. What's not to like?

The first was inbound, PRG-LHR, I’ve got to say a delicious goats cheese and lentil salad. Yes, served with another mini-salad of Prawn and mushroom, but it was quite lovely too! Also love the warm Parmesan bread! 👌🏼
The second is the outbound, LCY-PRG lunch service, opted for the ploughman’s and it was also very good. The starter was AMAZING. Goats curd and squash and it was defo restaurant quality. Scones to follow were also lovely!

In other news, I found there to be more food available on both these 1 and a bit-hour hops than last year in WT home from DXB...!
