I have decided to give my next two order to NYC Limousine. I will report back on how they do in their maiden voyages.

Hi,

I'm looking for a sedan or SUV from JFK to a hotel in Brooklyn. Most of the companies I've looked at only do to Manhattan apart from Dial7. Are they reliable or could you recommend any others?

This is odd. I've never heard of any of the major limo companies refusing to go to Brooklyn, which may not be legal. (It certainly would not be legal for a yellow cab to do so.)

In addition to Dial 7, I have taken Carmel , a/k/a 666-6666 to my home in Brooklyn.

Please note that as many members of this forum who swear by these two companies, there are an equal number who swear at them.

You can always ask the hotel for the name of the company they use.

N.B. there is sometimes an extra charge for an SUV or a van.

When I take a car service from home, I call one of the neighborhood ones but I would not gamble on them having a car at the airport when you arrive. Also, the ride may be a bit too much excitment for you.

I've been reading to small print and got a little bit of a shock. For Dial7:

Once you have safely landed and retrieved your luggage, please call us with your confirmation number to notify us of your arrival. We will direct you to a curbside meeting point located right outside of your terminal's baggage claim, where your driver will meet you within minutes.
I was under the impression car services always meet you inside the airport with a sign with your name on it?

They can do that but they will charge extra for it. At the minimum, they need to pay for parking.

We've mentioned Super Shuttle in this forum and have not recommended it to those who have asked. It's horrible in NYC.

As Landing Gear mentioned, it is possible with the higher-end car services (not sure about Dial7 and Carmel, etc.), but will certainly cost more. However, if you are not claiming bags, just give them a call when you get off the plane instead of waiting til you get to the curb. That way they should be there or at least close when you get outside.

Yep, there's a separate thread for that one in the Sticky here:

I give my business to Limores.net (now Global Transportation). It's very easy to make a reservation online, with competitive pricing airport to Manhattan and other boroughs. I get a text message when the car arrives (at least 15 minutes in advance) and the car is always clean and prompt. I've found them to be a clear step-up from Dial 7 which is terrible for airport pick ups (30 minute wait at the curb and never again).

NYC Limousine will meet you inside. BTW --- I didn't post my review of my first trip with them: They were OK. The first driver made me wait as he had "left the sign in the car" so I stood at bag claim for about ten minutes. The second trip had a car with A/C which was not very effective: I had to take off my shirt for most of the ride. Still --- I might try them again as I like the inside meeting.

LimoRes (Global Transport) will gladly meet you inside and you'll never, every have to worry about a less than perfect car.

Carmel and/or Dial 7 Car & Limousine Service

I have had success with both Carmel and Dial 7. Carmel is the car service that my job uses when they send us to the airport, and Dial 7 is the car service that I have my personal account with. Both are the two competing leaders in the car service industry, and they both get good and bad reviews depending on an individual's experience.

I would imagine that it is pretty easy to be accomodated by ANY company that screws up and wants to do something to make amends with a customer, so I think its up to you to decide which one you want to use.

I can only tell you that I decided to get a personal account with Dial 7 because they have always provided great service for me (as an individual).

They actually do offer the "meet & greet" service at the airport...all you have to do is ask for it. And yes, it's a little extra, but ALL of the car service companies charge you extra for having their drivers park their vehicles. The other option (which is easier pending on your sense of direction at the airport) is to just call them when you get your luggage, and they will direct you to your vehicle. The driver is usually circling the airport, since the police no longer let vehicles wait curbsibe for more than 5 minutes.

AND THEY OFFER DISCOUNT COUPONS...so as an "individual" that uses a car service to get to/from the airport, as well as throughout NYC, I vote for Dial 7.

Both have on line coupons everywhere. I've had good experiences with both. If you do not have checked luggage, if you call them while the plane is pulling up to the gate the time you get to the curb they should arrive or shortly thereafter. Cars are always clean and drivers presentable (more than I can say about NYC taxis and taxi drivers.) Also, never any problems on pick up. Always arriving before pick up time or a few minutes afterwards at the most.
