I had a flight to catch so I did not have time to really question the driver. Its only $8 but I don't like being ripped off and would not use Carmel again if I have been.
You were ripped off.

This is news to me. We take the 59th St bridge to avoid the tolls (and it's convenient to our building). That said, my response would be subtract $1.70 from the tip.

I use Dial 7 when in NYC and the driver and I always discuss in advance and generally use the 59th Street bridge.

That was my response, too, but if it is really going to Dial 7 vs. the driver, then I may need to find another car service. Yeah, I know that 59th St. is an option, but I missed a couple flights years back due to traffic, so now I always take the Triboro - it's more convenient where I live anyways.

I've tried searching for Supershuttle sedan reviews but I can only find stuff about their shared van. Has anyone used their private sedan service from JFK? I like the sound of their meet and greet service.

For any private sedan service, I dread that if my flight is late I will ahev to pay extortianate waiting charges!

I asked about the toll last time I called and the operator confirmed that Dial7 policy is to charge $6.50 for the Triboro toll. I asked where the extra $1.70 went when the driver is using E-ZPass, and she said she did not know.

Can I just pitch in with my car experiences from the other week?

Bear in mind i only had a UK cellphone with me....

LGA-Downtown
I booked limores
After landing, turned the phone on to find an automated voicemail and two text messages saying the car was there.
Walked out, car well signposted with the confirmation number on the side.
Driver very pleasant and got me through the traffic.
Total fare incl tips & tolls was $62.53 for a luxury sedan. ^

Wall Street-LGA
I booked Carmel as Limores was a lot more expensive.
No contact from Carmel so 5 mins after agreed pick up, I got on the phone to them. Said they'd put me through to a dispatcher and left me hanging for 3 minutes before I gave up and called back (International cell phone so probably $2/min for me).
I repeated this three times before telling them to cancel the job and I waded in to get a yellow cab. First two were nearing shift change, but finally found someone to do the job, whilst fending off other people trying to get me to take a random limo that was parked up.

Yellow cab, including a generous tip, came in at $40 total in pretty crummy traffic going up the BQE.

I'd definitely take Limores/Groundlink again, and recommend them to others too! Carmel - you can go whistle....

The only time that I have had issues with Carmel/Dial 777s with respect to waiting time has been peak travel times and almost always on arrivals. Generally I will use a car service for early morning departures and late night arrivals. I would tend to agree that if you are arriving at LGA/JFK around 5-6PM when there is probably more demand than cars and drivers you will be waiting longer. What time was your WallStreet LGA pick up?

Thanks for reporting in! I've added links to your reviews to the OP. Sorry to hear about the cell phone charges - in that case, a public phone might actually have worked better, esp since they have a toll free number.

I've read through most of this thread and was going to take a taxi from LGA > Setai NYC (400 Fifth Avenue) but would consider a car service if it won't cost me too much more. My flight is scheduled to arrive at LGA via DL on a Tuesday at 3:15 pm.

Should I expect to pay $42+ if I take a taxi? I would prefer a car service since the vehicles are nicer than a cab and am willing to pay slightly more if that's a possibility.

Maybe a frequent LGA'er > Midtown West can point in the right direction here.

My new strategy is to ask my hotel or client which service they use regularly and have them make the booking. I'm just not in the city enough to have clout and without that all the services I have used (and I have used just about every one on this thread at one time or another) put you at the back of the line if things get busy. I'm speaking here of Manhattan TO the airports. For the reverse I find the companies who offer inside pickup to be the most reliable as they are responsible for monitoring the flight arrival times and don't want drivers and cars sitting idle. I just don't want to deal with that "call us when you get here" and then wait some undefined amount of time game.

Two services

I have used Dial 7 and Chauffeurs unlimited. Chauffeurs was a little nicer--real person answering the phone and very attentive. Dial 7 is a little more voicemail and big, impersonal place. Chauffeurs also had very nice, clean cars. I'd give the edge to Chauffeurs.

cab fare will be less than $30, probably in the range of $26-$29, and that includes tunnel toll...don't let the cab driver convince you to take the Triborough (now the RFK, Jr.) bridge, it is a lot longer and will be about $10 bucks more expensive...at times the cab line at the delta terminal(D) is long...just simply walk over to terminal C where there is rarely a line...well, i guess that's 2 good reasons to take a limo!...lol

Yay, this thread is exactly what I needed. I was looking through Yelp last night and New Day had a lot of good reviews. Glad to see that it's been recommended here as well. I'll consider Delancey and LimoRes also.

I'll be arriving EWR at 11am on Dec 24. I figure I'll be fine taking the AirTrain + NJT option as outlined in the wiki. That's $12.50 to Penn Station, 25-40 minutes travel time, right? Is there a reason I should consider car service instead?

My flight out from JFK is at 9am on Dec 30, though, so I figure I should leave at... 6:30? Would it be easy to get a cab from my hotel (near-ish Grand Central) or would you recommend a car service?

Also, has anyone had any experience with R&G Henry Limo? They offer the Benz Sprinter limo. I'm interested in it for travelling around Manhattan. There's only one review on Yelp for them, which gave them 4 stars but the reviewer didn't even use them..

That's strange, I've never gotten voicemail when calling Dial7. Never tried Chauffeurs - thanks for posting!
