Hi all. Looking for some advice. Will be arriving at EWR in the evening and need a ride into Manhattan. There will be four adults and an 8 month old baby for whom I will need a child seat. Anyone any experience with using any company who will accommodate a child seat (we do not have one with us and will need the company to supply one)?

I have checked out Groundlink who seem to be a decent outfit with good reviews. Anyone any experience with this company?

If I pre book my only concern is with the time to get through immigration etc. I was looking at allowing an hour for this (international arrival) - would this be about right?

Lastly, if I don't pre book and ring on arrival would I find it difficult to get a vehicle with a child seat?

Thanks in advance for your help.

To my knowledge most car services don't offer child seats. They're not legally required for livery vehicles or taxis in New York. Not sure about the rules in New Jersey (where EWR is).

One car service I know for sure offers child seats is Eastern:

http://www.easterncarservice.com/airport_rates.php

Their rates are competitive with the cheaper services. They charge $5 extra for a child seat and maybe $10 or $20 extra for a minivan that will hold your whole crew. I've only used them for rides to the airport, not rides from the airport, but they say on their rates page that they give a 45 minute grace period for international arrivals (and waiting time is only $35/hr after that).

Carmel

Have been stuck in NYC for a while due to the hurricane, latest snag was many car services either didnt have cars available or wouldnt take reservations due to gas shortage. Uber is even charging "surge" pricing. Went down the list, elite, limores, dial7, ended up with carmel. Carmel has mixed to bad reviews on here and on yelp, so booked them a little early in case I had to scramble for another car. Driver was prompt and didnt drive crazy, unlike most mid/low end car services here. They probably have their share of bad drivers, but this trip to JFK was fine.
Bonus - they give a few AA or Delta miles.

Everything seemed routine yesterday when I made reservations with Big Apple for a JFK pickup this evening. I really will be surprised if they fail the job.

What I do not know is what kind of trouble we will have getting into town. Report will follow, probably tomorrow.

We have reservations for Dial7 for tomorrow (Saturday) and return on Monday. While they are honoring existing reservations, it seems that they're not taking new reservations until about Wednesday (their blog says Tuesday, but trying to get quotes doesn't return a result until Wednesday).

Cheers.

Scratch the JFK today part of milepost #275. We have needed to change our flight to Saturday and the pickup has been called for LGA early evening. Report to follow.

Hopefully you're well on your way already. If you were unable to take a yellow cab or car service, then you can try taking the M out to Sutphin Blvd and then take the Airtrain from there to Federal Circle, then the shuttle buses to the terminal. No idea how long it will take, though.

Good luck!

No Gas

Text, e-mail, and voicemail from BigApple saying they were out of gas and could not get us. "Arrange alternate transportation."

Our alternate transportation was easily arranged by walking out to the cab line where there was nobody waiting and plenty of cabs.

Tough getting a car this afternoon from the usual suspects (Dial7, no cars; Carmel, no answer; AllState 30-min delays) - giving Limores a shot - fingers crossed!

We booked Carmel online yesterday, confirmed n driver was on time, fleet has gasoline, took best route fast from Queens to West Side, great price n took coupon discount. Pier checkin has no regular power n freezing, but we sail soon out of the cold.

Happy to report that my Limores (Groundlink) driver was on time (with text notification) with a nice sedan.

My driver noted that the charge (which includes fare, tax, and gratuity and is paid via credit card when you make your reservation) of $47.50 for UES –> Penn Station was probably $10 higher than usual - he suspected it was because of the gasoline shortage.
