NYC Limousine / Car Services

I attempted multiple searches to no avail.

Can someone please recommend a reputable Limousine service from JFK to Manhattan?

Thank you in advance.

I've edited this post now several times!

You know what....let me find one with a decent price for you. I recommended 2 but then realized they were over $100.

I've used Dial 7 and while they are under $100, you will have to wait about 15 minutes for them. To me, it's not a big deal.

Dial 7 is like $50, which is painless, and they're quite reliable.

When I'm not footing the bill, Empire is excellent, as are Carey and Dav-el, but all are supremely expensive.

Are you looking for a stretch limo or just a car service?

For basic car service (usually a Town Car, sometimes an SUV), I usually use New Day for personal trips and Odyssey for business trips.

New Day is similar to Dial7, but a lot smaller and based in my neighborhood, so I find their service to be a bit more personal. But some people prefer Dial7's ubiquity (particularly for airport pickups, where if your driver doesn't show, there's almost always another nearby who can pick you up).

Odyssey is one of a million mid-range services that focus mainly on corporate accounts (others include Dial Car, Elite and Fone-A-Car (718-832-4600)). These services tend to have newer and cleaner cars than the Dial7s and New Days of the world, but don't cost nearly as much as the higher end Careys, Boston Coaches and Dav Els. I only use Odyssey because I have access to their web-based reservation system through my work, which saves me tons of time in arranging and expensing the ride. But they've never let me down.

Note that most low-end/mid-range NY car services charge a few bucks extra for inside pickup, where the driver waits inside with your name on a sign and takes your bags. The rates they advertise are usually for outside pickup, where you call a dispatcher when you arrive to get a car number, and schlep your bags to the curb to wait for your car.

I have had bad experiences with Dial 7. The drivers often ask for extra money. They are all private contractors, so the price you get quotes may not be the real price. Some times I’ve gotten an old beater as well.

I usually use XYZ for basic trips: https://www.xyzcar.com/home.aspx
Cost about $60 + tips and tolls. - all Lincoln Town Car Limited Black Sedans

And Executive1 if I want to ride in style: http://executive1ny.com/
All luxury vehicles, usually a Denali or stretch of some kind about $90 all inclusive.

I have never had a driver try to extort me on rates. And the rates you are quoted are, in fact, the real rates. If the driver tries to get something else out of you that is not because they are private contractors; it is because those drivers are scumbags.

I always pay with a CC and know going in what the rates are. They've occasionally tried to hose me on the tolls, but I've also known the correct rates and corrected them. If they continue to protest I just don't include a tip and come out ahead on the deal anyways.

I've never had that happen. A few years ago, I experienced a driver (may have been another company) who after the drive said that he couldn't take credit cards when I had already arranged to do so. Well I wouldn't put up with that. I told him that I had only $5 on me and that I had arranged an AMEX payment with the dispatcher so he could either have me sign a slip or take the 5 bucks.

I always make arrangements to pay by AmEx in advance. One of my co workers and I on separate occasions had drivers try to add $20 to the total. Both of us called dispatch who then called the driver. In both cases the driver argued with dispatch. Another co worker had them rip up her credit slip and tell her that he won’t accept anything less than a 20% tip. Sadly, she did it. With the $20 extra fee I crossed it out, wrote a new total, and signed it and left while the driver kept yelling.

The last straw was when I arranged to pay by credit card and the driver told me he only accepted cash when we got to the drop off location. I called dispatch again and they told the driver to take the credit card and he still refused. I got up and told him that he either gives me a credit slip to sign or I leave and give him nothing. He refused to give me the credit slip, so I left. I was still charged and the driver gave himself quite the tip. I called their customer service who told me they would reverse the charge, they never did, and I finally had to dispute it. The driver also kept calling my cell phone and cursing at me, that’s when they told me all drivers are private contractors and that they are not responsible.

And that’s why I don’t use Dial 7 anymore.

Makes my day! ^

Regarding other posts, as far as I am concerned 666-6666 and the 7s are all equally dreadful. Based on my bad experiences, I've renamed them 666-SATAN and 777-OSAMA.
