They are quite used to people with long layovers going for a quick visit to the city or just seeking passport stamps. You shouldn't expect any problems.

With only a 2 hour "connection", I don't think you'll really have much time to leave the secure area, so you wouldn't have to go through immigration (unless you need to be landslide for something.)

Did a TPE turnaround on MH- fairly easy with printed boarding pass- a long walk pass the immigration to the left and to the transfers area security and then the walk back to the lounge. CX lounge is the closest to the MH gates.

Only complaint is that you will not have time for Eisbein mit Saurkraut und ein schoenes Bier.
He/she could have that as well if they arrive in FRA. A 5 minute walk over to the Squaire and just enjoy it at the Paulaner. Actually it's not bad at all and the Weizen is vom Fass.

I wouldn't trust that passengers on a plane coming from CAI had been properly screened. The best way to describe CAI, and perhaps Egypt in general, is "casual." Flight departure times are for the sake of having something on the board. My LHR-CAI flight? Even that ran 2 hours late departing, which the desk agents thought to be no big deal, pretty normal. They actually gave a 3-hour window when the flight might leave.

This was 3 years ago; maybe it's all changed now?

The bright side? It's a fairly-modern airport, not at all like some parts of MNL.
Both of my flights out of CAI were on time, but both were on QR. Terminal 1 where most (all?) airlines besides MS is anything but modern. It's the original airport for Cairo, and is positively 3rd world. I don't think the metal detector at the transit entry was even plugged in. I'm not joking. At least they scan again and pat down when you go into the departure gate lounge.

I'm wondering if when going through passport control they'll ask how long are you staying for (4 hours) and then have to explain in English that I'm on a mileage run--and then when going through security and passport control for the flight back to the U.S answer why I just arrived at 9:45 and am turning around going home immediately. Will the language barrier be a problem in Frankfurt? I was in Geneva in January and it seemed that nobody spoke english well enough to explain something to--and in Amsterdam in February I was detained for questioning when I booked my ticket home the night before I left.

Any experience with same day international mileage runs? Please share any advice!
If I were arriving at 9:45 and leaving at 12:45, I would not say I was staying for four hours because that is not true. I would be staying for three hours, so that's what I would say. The truth will set you free.

Good catch, I missed it completely Just tried to be helpful. Figure in immi/customs as well as check in and security, it is even less and much closer to 2 hrs. Not worth discussing then.

I'm looking at a MR to Hong Kong, does anyone know if 2hr is enough to clear customs and hope on the plane back? It lands at 10:30am and departs at 12:30pm

You don't have to clear customs when connecting at HKG. Depending on your origin or destination, you may have to re-clear security. Then just head to your next gate. Two hours is plenty of time.

Thanks, Plan on doing YYZ--> AMS --HKG, then hoping on the plane back to HKG--> AMS --> YYZ. That should get me about 30K on skymiles. Wish I could stay longer, but no more days off.

All transits at HKG require passengers to go through security. If you don't have the return boarding pass you'll need to visit transfer desk before security as passengers without onward boarding pass are turned away at security. Check which of the several transit areas your onward airline has its transfer desk at. This won't necessarily be the closest one to the gate being used.

No joke. I have been and came back with no problems.
AF in LA asks "why" and will you be leaving the airport?
I say I like to fly and no I will not be leaving the airport.
AF: Ok you are going. Have fun.

Arrival in RUH I could have walked straight to my gate if I had my boarding passes, but did end up going to through transit where some men thought I was strange for doing this. They all had a good laugh and sent me to gate 21 to wait for a guy to help me. He came along and took my passport and itinerary and returned with all boarding passes in hand. He also said "very weird" and asks why?
I tell him just so I can earn miles to access the Saudi Lounge.
He loved that and invited me to go in.

3 hrs. later I'm on my way back to CDG. No problems at all.
So it can be done with no visa or transit visa.

AF didn't care and the Saudi's didn't care.

BTW upon arriving in SLC from CDG the jetway broke and would not move to the plane.
After about 30 minutes they move some stairs to door 2R and out we go 30 yards to the customs hall on the tarmac level with about a dozen security people lining the way so we don't escape.

I did as well, Ashkale is spot-on, I had a OLCI print but they didn't check at all at the transfers security, they just took a quick look at the passport.
CX lounge can be quite crowdy in the morning (not the F section), MH can use CI lounge (if in J).
Cheers

PUJ MR & Customs

I recently booked a MR to PUJ and have 1hr 20min between arriving and returning. Can anyone confirm if I can just stay in the terminal to catch my departing flight, or will I have to go through customs?

I'm also assuming that if I don't go through customs I can likely avoid the $10 visitor fee (in addition to not having a potential issue that would delay me from returning)
