Yes there is the Lufthansa Sen and a Business lounge on the 3rd floor. (Plaza Premium is on the 4th and guess EK lounge is on 2nd).

All the lounges are kind of nestled in the same building. And the building is just before it forks out into the various gates.

LED - St. Petersburg Russia

I don't think anyone has posted their experience of an immediate turnaround at LED St. Petersburg, Russia, yet. I did such a thing a few years ago.

FRA-LED as positioning flight for an itin going to C3. Came back on the same plane LED-FRA. From what I could see, LED is a pretty chaotic airport with a somewhat socialist years' "charm". But it was possible to stay airside without going through immigration which in my case required a visa which I did not have. That's why LH almost would not let me board the FRA-LED leg even though their hotline had confirmed I was going to be OK (which in the end I was, but I was left to wait until about 5 minutes to departure).

This was some time in 2010 IIRC.

Indeed that is the bottom line, but as A_Lee posted a few years back, the concept of mileage running is rather foreign to India so it is not a seamless turnaround like in many other places. YMMV

Strictly speaking transit without visa applies when connecting to a third country. Turnarounds with a return to the origin country may or may not require a visa depending on the country being transitted.

I'm doing a direct return in MKE later today. I have not been able to get my boarding passes, or check in at my departing/returning airport (LAX). Should I be worried? Assuming I can get them when I complete my first one way, in MKE and before I re-board to return?

Just got back from a 1hr turnaround at MNL on UA. As long as you don't make a wrong turn, it works fine, but geez, the terminal (T1) is a mess. Designed before modern security needs, it's like CDG on steroids. Just go to the transfer desk and ask what you need to do. When I was there, they were very friendly and accommodating, but they brought up using the lounge, and if I had done that, there's no way I could have made my flight. They tried to assure me that I could, that they'd call out the flight. The reason this would have been a terribly bad idea is the absurd additional security at the gate. Three different checks by different people, one checking my shoes, one checking my ID/papers, another checking the contents of my luggage. They were doing this to everyone and, had I been further back in the line, I would have been extremely nervous, to say the least.

There didn't seem to be much issue with my turnaround; the only "official" problem I had was a security-type who was trying to extort the airport fee ($12?) out of me. He was trying to tell me why I had to pay it, and I was telling him no I don't, here are my passes, I'm just transiting. He gave up. I got the feeling that everybody's looking for a handout... uniformed people in the men's room tearing off paper towels for you???!!! It was like some places I've been to in Egypt.

Don't be scared of a fast turn at MNL, just do what you're supposed to do, don't take a wrong turn, and you'll be fine. But do not tempt yourself with a desire for a passport stamp. Stay airside!!! Even if you have a few hours.

Arriving on-time, I made the long walk to the TG lounge, spent 10 minutes there, then the boarding announcement was made and made the long trek back. Hardly worth it to make the walk for only 10 minutes. On arrival back at the gate, I was pleasently surprised to see that I was op-upped from Y to C. My first ever international op-up with TG despite having hundreds of flights while being ROP Gold. I hope this trend continues. With or without your return boarding pass, I don't see that you'll have any problems doing a SIN turnaround on TG, or probably any carrier.
Sin on UA was a breeze. 6.5 hours between 12:30-7am, an amazing airport to wander around. Starbucks at 3:27am is something you'll likely experience noplace else. Extremely efficient transfer desk. BUT... things in Singapore go by the rules. I decided it would be nice to get a passport stamp, since the place was empty (nobody at immigrations... not one person, zero) at 5:02am. Looked pretty safe to walk out and re-enter. Nope. They looked at my flight time and said no way, can't do, your flight leaves in less than two hours. Again, nobody there. Not a soul. The people telling me I couldn't do it were the same people who would be running me through.

High marks for the Transit Hotel. Not fancy, but nice bed, nice shower, great place to take a shower before continuing. About $58.

Update: I got some strange looks, but the GA at MKE was able to print my boarding passes back to LAX.

BKK

Thinking of doing a run to BKK in December which will entail staying between 8 hours to 1 day. Will be coming from the states and most likely on UA. I've never been to BKK or Thailand before. Any advice on how to spend my time and/or how to get some sleep, navigating the airport, leaving airside, immigration issues etc? I hear it's a great city to lay over in, but I have no clue where to go. Sorry for such broad questions, but gotta start somewhere. Thank you.

I'm planning a run from Europe to NY with a direct turnaround.

Option 1: 3 hours layover at EWR

Option 2: arrival to JFK, 5 hours layover and leaving from EWR

I suppose option 2 shouldn't be a problem, as I could state I'm meeting somebody in the city. What about option 1? I'm not too keen for an interview with the US boarder protection...

Either option will entice questions as US CBP are generally suspicious of same day turnarounds by non-US citizens. Whether or not you get secondary depends on the officer and how you handle their questions.

BKK turnaround

Can anyone share their experience with a BKK turnaround? I'm doing NRT-BKK-NRT. Arrive 11:25pm on UA and leave 8:25am the next morning on UA codeshare on NH metal. Will I have any problem staying airside? I will try to get my NH departure boarding pass in NRT the day before.
