The airport hotel is not great but you can walk to it and it is quite adequate. If you don't need much sleep then Old San Juan is worth a visit. You will not go through customs/immigration but agriculture may want a chat before the return.

You do not need to go through customs or immigration when traveling between the US mainland and Puerto Rico.

Just Pricelined the hotels, they are pretty expensive. Which ones are close to the airport?

Just got back from SJU and stayed at the Radisson Ambassador and the Doubletree, which are walking distance to each other. The Radisson was horrible - terrible service, old dirty rooms, overall just really bad. The Doubletree was the complete opposite! Excellent service, very clean modern rooms, and good breakfast. We were at both on points but they are at similar price points for paid stays. The taxis to the airport are a fixed rate of $17 (from either property) and take about 10 minutes without traffic. I highly recommend the Doubletree. PM with any questions, happy to give more info if you need.

We did a quick turn at TGU (Tegucigalpa) on Sunday. Arrived on UA from IAH and departed on same equipment, back to IAH. Total time on ground: 45 mins.

Before departing IAH to TGU, we made certain that we had our return BPs. Since we were flying Biz, we decided to do through a kiosk/agent, instead of OLCI. WRONG! The kiosks/agents can/will only do check ins for flights departing IAH. So we opened our lap top and did OLCI. My partner got his BP e-mailed, whereas I need to show my passport to an agent to confirm the name. Back to the agents. This time, we had a different agent who provided the BPs right away (since we were already checked in).

On the flight, we were proactive and told the FA what we were doing, who relayed this to the GA when the doors opened. We identified ourselves to the GA, who asked us to wait on the jetway. After all of the pax deplaned, he escorted us to the gate area and asked us to wait, as boarding would commence soon. He was very matter of fact - it was pretty clear that we weren't the first ones to use TGU as a MR turnaround. There was no need to exit security or clear customs/immigration. We had just enough time to browse the little souvenir shop and log on to the airport wifi to check-in on Facebook.

On arrival back at IAH, I was prepared to RUN! since we only had 1h40m to clear customs/immigration, security, and take the train from Terminal E to Terminal A for an AC flight to YYZ. Since Canadians are allowed to use the kiosks the Americans can use, we went there (I asked about "One Stop", but it wasn't available) There was virtually no line up at the kiosks (which know your arriving flight, based on scanning your passport...creepy). The officer that looked at our receipt just raised an eyebrow and confirmed that we were transiting to Canada. Overall, we made it from touchdown to our departing gate in 37 mins.

On arrival in YYZ, we went to the connections line at immigration - kiosks weren't working. The officer there asked a few questions, but nothing too serious. Although he was a little incredulous that I marked down $4 as the value if what I was bringing in (Honduran postcards!). From there, it was pretty smooth sailing to the connecting flight to YEG. Re-clearing security was easy as there was no line.

NOTE: we had no checked luggage. So nothing to claim and re-check post-customs at any of the airports.

FCO Mileage Run - Transit Advice Needed

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on transit in FCO for a mileage run? I snagged a cheap P fare on United and am traveling HNL-EWR-FCO-EWR-LAX-HNL in August (arriving FCO on Sunday, Aug 24). I have a 2 hour turnaround (same plane).

I've done mileage runs before with a shorter amount of time, but I hear that FCO can be a little frustrating with the Terminal 3 arrival and the Terminal 5 departure.

Does anyone have any more info on this? Is there a way to stay in the secure area without clearing customs?

Thank you in advance. And if anyone is on the EWR-FCO-EWR flights that weekend, let me know!

If you have your return boarding pass, you can go to transit and stay in the sterile zone. Then go to the gate early for the security check.

To go through passport control, take the bus to Terminal 5, and go through security is cutting it very short and they close out the flights an hour before departure

If he doesn't have a return boarding pass, shouldn't a transit desk be able to issue it?

The flight should arrive and depart from the same gate in the G satellite, which can be accessed from either Terminal 3 or 5. T5 is a remote terminal for check-in; you should try to avoid needing to go there, which would mean exiting to the street and needing to take a landside bus. I'd think the BP can be issued at the gate: the question would be: once you disembark through the segregated halls and get to a transit area, does getting to the departure gates in the satellite require a security check with a BP check?

I very much appreciate the replies!

I'll be sure to get my return boarding passes printed before leaving the US.

The other burning question is if there's a lounge to visit!!!

There is a lounge but it is nothing to write home about, usually crowded (since shared with several other airlines), usually just drinks or some inedible snacks....

MR to RUH How easy and what do I need to do.

I will have 3 1/2 hrs in RUH. Coming and going on AF.
Will not have new boarding passes until after getting there.
Can I get them as soon as I get there?
No visa is needed for a qiuck turn, is that correct?
Is there anything that I should know before I go for this?

Is this a joke? You won't even get on the plane to go there, so no worries.
