LHR Turnaround
LAX/JFK/LHR AA2/104 on 11/11 Scheduled arrival 7:30 AM on 11/12
LHR/LAX AA137 on 11/12 Scheduled departure 11:30 AM
J upgrade on JFK/LHR leg using miles, LAX/JFK segment didn't clear. Tried to get my return boarding pass at the JFK AC but they said they couldn't issue it for a international itin.
Arrived LHR a few minutes early and deplaned at 7:30AM. FC line was already long so I decided to go landside, although I didn't have a confirmed J return. Used Fast Track Immigration and was landside at 7:45AM.
I put "in transit" under UK address on my immigration card and the officer asked me where I was in transit to. I told him LA and he then asked what time was my departure. I replied and he said that int'l check was 3 hrs in advance. I told him I was going to the AA Arrivals Lounge for a quick shower and some fresh air. He waved me through.
I used the Arrivals Lounge and was at Park Avenue check in at 8AM. Unfortunately my return upgrade had not yet cleared so I couldn't use Fast Track security. I was in the security line at 8:20AM. The end of the security line was at Boots past Starbucks and I was back airside at 8:50AM. There was no line at Fast Track. I subsequently learned that as PLT I could have used Fast Track Security. See Heathrow Fast Track qualification clarification
Had time for shopping and the AC. I would advise checking in first and then returning to use the Arrivals Lounge. Also, probably should have used the CX lounge.
There were no bag sizers at Park Avenue, Security or the gate.
I saw several passengers board the plane with two carryons.

MSP-AMS-CPH for New Year's
My year end MR took me from MSP-AMS-CPH and back again. I spent a splendid 10 hours soaking up a little nightlife in CPH and back to the airport for the return flight to AMS and then MSP.
As for the questioning on the return flight, the security was rather curious about my stay in Copenhagen... "Did you sleep on the street?" I told her I stayed at a restaurant and stayed up all night, which was met with more curiosity and questions.
As soon I mentioned the MR, she told me that's what she was looking for me to say, placed the sticker on my boarding pass and on I went.
This has been repeated elsewhere, but basically, if you mention your mileage run, you can expect understanding and little difficulty. AMS is a pleasant place to transfer and it seems the MR is a common sight to the experienced folks here.

Is Canada still a horror story?
I'll be in YVR next week mainly to do the tourist thing. However on the last two days or so I will be doing a YVR-SFO-LAX-ORD-MEM-ORD-LAX-SFO-YVR, about a 36 hour or so turn, then leave on my flight back to HNL (via SFO) the next day.
Are there still "issues" going through Canadian immigration, or is this a thing of the past?
Oh, and yes, I am going to be traveling solo...
