Hi fellow FTers!
I'm working on updated for the new roll out of Comfort + (C+)
Thanks!
rwoman

On March 1, 2015, DL rebranded Economy Comfort as "Comfort+."
Delta - Comfort+
dl.com: LINK
Comfort+ FAQ - LINK
Offering:
  • C+ is a complimentary upgrade (space available) for DM and PM after booking. GM can access for free at T-72 and FO at T-24. (There is no longer a discount for GM/FO.)
  • Sky Priority boarding
  • Extra legroom and, on international a/c, extra recline
  • Free wine, spirits and regional craft beers, plus premium snacks
  • Complimentary premium entertainment from Delta Studio™ (No longer relevant as of July 1st; Entertainment now complimentary in Y)
  • On JFK-LAX/SFO flights, a Luvo® sandwich wrap and frozen Greek yogurt bar, pillow, blanket, and sleep kit are included

A few general notes regarding DL C+:
  1. On international a/c, the bulkhead seats often have a significant amount leg room (other than the 764).
  2. The bulkhead and exit row seats are often narrower as the tray table and/or IFE unit are in the arm rests. The arm rests do not move which, coupled with a smaller seat, can be uncomfortable for larger pax.
  3. The first row of regular economy seating after EC IS NOT recommended. The last row of EC has the EC recline and members have reported that there's no extra space between this row and the first row of regular Y.
  4. Selecting C+ Seats - You cannot select or purchase C+ seats until after booking is completed on revenue or award tickets. The UG has to clear as well.
************************************************** ***********
Internationally Configured Aircraft
Per DL, International/transoceanic C+ offers 35" pitch and 6" recline. (LINK)

747-400 / 744 / 74S:
  • dl.com seat map: 747-400
    Rows 22-26 - 42 total C+ seats.
  • Legroom:
Row 22 ABC/HJK and 24 DEFG are the bulkhead seats. 22C/H are noted as having unlimited legroom and some have noted that people can congregate due to the proximity of the lavatories, which are located directly in front of the first row of C+ on the 744. 22ABC have recently received poor reviews because of the lav and galley - people tend to congregate in this area and it can become stinky. Comments on 22K indicate that pax can access the aisle without disturbing other passengers. Also, the lavatory near 22HJK is blocked for BusinessElite pax, so there tends to be fewer disturbances and become less smelly over the course of a long flight. Also, seats 22B and 22J can be used for bassinets.
Some might prefer the legroom of row 35/51 on the 744 with less recline and tray in armrest.

    Rows 31-34; 36 C+ seats
NOTE: As DL reduced the number of Business Elite seats on the 777s, rows 29-32 are now the C+ seats.
The C+/Economy seats on a/c has winged headrests.
  • Legroom:
Row 29/31 seats are the bulkhead seats and have plenty of leg room. Rows 30-32/32-34 are standard C+ seats with USB and plug power. Row 44 (exit row) has excellent legroom, but no power outlets. The window seat sin this row are narrower because the tray table is in the armrest does not move up. The recline is standard recline.
    IFE:
These a/c are equipped with IFE at each seat.

  • Legroom:
On the 764, the bulkhead seats (row 15) have less leg room than the 763's; there's probably about 2' or so between the edge of the seat and the wall. The bulkhead seats do not have moveable arm rests and the tray table/IFE monitor are in the arm rests. In my experience, I felt like the A332/333 and 763's had better recline in EC than the 764.
  • IFE:

Flying to Hawaii in C+:
- From DL's C+ page: 3-4" (7-10 cm) extra legroom/ Up to 50% more recline on select routes (JFK to/from SFO or LAX, and ATL/MSP/or JFK to/from HNL).

C+ and Priority Boarding/Baggage Allowance:
Passengers in C+ get Sky Priority boarding unless their elite status provides a higher boarding zonemu access. There is no additional baggage allowance unless elite status or fare class provide it.

Status Changes:
There have been a couple of questions regarding C+ when a member's status drops down after January 31. Typically, seats will hold unless there is an equipment change. If there's a change, the passenger(s) will most likely be seated in regular economy. There are reports of some success contacting @delta to get reseated in C+.

I'm a silver and on a recent trip ATL to SJU was offered EC at check in for free. I had preassigned an exit row seat and decided to keep it. I think exit rows have as much if not more leg room than EC. If you choose an exit row get a seat in the second row as the first row doesn't recline.

My recommendation is to pick an exit row if possible or another seat you could live with. Check in at the window as a lot of times when others are upgraded EC seats open up. Check a few times even up to the time right before boarding. You can change your seat on the delta app when they upgrade someone on the battlefield.

+1 Use the app, refresh often, EC seats open T-1 as upgrades, SDC and other changes occur.

As I understand it, Economy Comfort seats may be available within the checkin window without an upcharge.

If you are silver, what has been your experience with such availability? Is the process simple enough (switching seats doing online checkin)?
My experience with upgrading to domestic EC at the 24 hour mark, meaning flight departure time, and not necessarily check-in time, is that there has always been an EC seat available for a free upgrade. However, many times these are middle seats, in which case I keep my original aisle seat.

I will only sit in EC if it is bulkhead (preferably window), and I only see those open at T-24 maybe 10-20% of the time. YMMV depending on route.

At T-24, if I have to choose between non-bulkhead EC and exit row, I will usually keep my exit row seat. I am quite averse to people reclining into me, and bulkhead and exit row seats are the only seats on the plane that prevent that from happening.

Thanks, I went through post #1 and could not find anything specifically discussing legroom for row 12. Some bulkheads are great and others are terrible when the wall is there. Thanks for responding.

Remember - you can buy up to that EC seat for a discount if you don't want to roll the dice at the "free" time. Me - I didn't want to wait and find a middle seat. I bought up. For $29.50, I got my EC aisle seat SLC-JFK. Worth it, to me.

I have almost never had a problem getting an EC seat at T-24, though as some have mentioned, I often pass up on it and just keep the exit row aisle I got at booking.

Even when there aren't any "good" EC seats at T-24, I often check the mobile app about when BFUGs are being processed, since many of the higher medallions are being cleared from EC aisles and windows that they were able to select at time of booking.

The only time I haven't been able to get a seat I liked was during some massive WX IRROPs, when I would have been perfectly happy to fly home in an OH bin anyway.

Others have alluded to the fact, but just to make it clear, EC is available at T-24 of departure, not at check-in. This makes no different if you're only flying one segment, but if you have a connection, note that you can't select EC for the second flight until T-24 of that segment.

I'm 100% on having some kind of EC seat available to me at some point prior to boarding, but like others, sometimes choose to keep my exit row seat if I don't fancy the particular EC seats available.

I may be alone on this one, but the Delta app never allows me to move myself from standard Y up to EC - even within T-24, the app tells me they are premium seats requiring additional payment and directs me to go to the website. Once I have put myself in EC using OLCI, then the app allows me to change from one EC seat to another without problem.

Must be a route thing. Short-hauls out of DTW to ATL, BOS or NYC I rarely see people reclining into you in any of the EC seats (Kettle class is different story). On the other hand, exit rows on the short hauls tend to have no cushion in the window seats, which makes the 1-2 hours unenjoyable enough for me to wonder if the extra leg room was worth it.

The EC are much more comfortable to me than the standard Y seats on DL. That said, if it is a longer flight - LAX to ATL or something similar - I usually just fork over the extra $30 at booking and get my EC bulkhead seat (Usually 10B on the 763). A couple times I've waited until the OLCI window when EC then becomes free for FO's to select, but availability can be a crap-shoot - especially depending on the route. Again, for longer flights, I just don't mess with it. When you're flying from hubs like I have lately, just not worth messing around when the UG list is 30+ people long.

I change from Y to EC in the android app all the time - but it was not possible until the newer version of the app came out (with the same theme as DL.com and "Book a Trip" functionality). Prior to that version of the app, the behavior you describe of only being able to pick EC seats in-app after selecting them through some other means was my experience, too.

One last point.

If you don't want to select an EC seat at the 24 hour window, don't check in at that point. (You are then locked into your assigned seat.) Rather, check the available seats periodically prior to departure, to see if one that is to your liking opens up.

This might reduce your chances at an upgrade, but if you are like most of the FO's here, your chances are pretty slim anyway.

This is wrong.

You can change your seat anytime up until the point that you board the plane. I sometimes change my seat 3 or 4 times on the day of departure as seats open up. This is all after I've checked in and gotten both a mobile and PDF boarding pass.

Checking in earlier/later has zero impact on your UG chances. Upgrade priority is based on medallion level, fare class, time of request (usually the same as time of booking), and the DL Reserve Amex as a tiebreaker.
