My experience is that it very much varies by aircraft. If you get one of the 8*F 777's with crew bunks above Row 1, there is no overhead space for those passengers and so overhead space can run out fairly fast in the First cabin.
It's fine on the A380 I find. My little wheelie fits in the coat closet by the seat quite nicely as it is too wide for the overhead above Row 1 where the plane starts to narrow.

For long haul agree. Sit in the CCR and enjoy the space. There is never an issue around overhead or wardrobe space in F even if it is completely full and everyone comes with 2 proper wheelie bags.
It is short haul that is the issue. Some flights can have 10+ rows of CE and if everyone has 2 bags that would almost fill the overhead bins. With passengers in Y I wish BA would do what someone posted happened a few years ago that the CC just took the bags out of the overhead bin and checked them in (or were going to). Passenger came storming up to which they said "we simply assumed that you wanted to check your bag in and left it for us to do so!" then the bag went back with the passenger......

Yet to be worked out, I think is the answer to this one. On the two occasions at LHR that I have been "Group Zeroed" ahead of the formal introduction, I have been effectively pre-boarded into the area at the top of the escalator in advance of the carry-on cull. When boarding has commenced, I have been quick enough out of the traps to be the first on board. As I have already observed, it is a great improvement as you get physically ahead of the Group 1 Tensa-barrier siege.

May have been lucky, but I have never had a problem stowing carry on in First. Not even close. For me, Group 0 has most benefit for short-haul.

I have had 4 flights on trial sectors (LHR-JFK / LHR-BOS)
LHR-JFK flying first with CX Emerald - Group 0
LHR-JFK Flying first with BA gold - Group 0
LHR-JFK Flying first with CX emerald but booked on AA Codeshare - Group 1
LHR-BOS Flying first with BA Gold (Z class redemption) - Group 0

Will be interesting to see how does plays out with a wider roll out.

Based on your profile (i.e. only BA Gold/OWE) and the flights you have posted, you should not have been in Group 0 for any flights. It's only for GGL and Premier.

Much of this thread is merely of theoretical interest to me as until I retire I won’t have the time to fly enough for 5000 TP.

However I do appreciate the views and experiences listed and I think BA should take them into account. Those who go through the system often know what works and what doesn’t, and have valid ideas about how to make things better - and if things are better for a GGL in First, eventually it gets better for me as a silver in CW.

Us “normals” have the same frustrations over queues and those with excess baggage too, and I think that BA needs to have boarding run by those on this thread - and we could actually see if it all worked better!

Sounds like 3 errors out of 4, which is strange to the extent that noone else, so far, seems to have reported any such "bank error in your favour" on the Group 0 issue. Can I double check that on none of those occasions you were travelling with any GGL or Premier companion as this would explain the group 0. To reiterate, for Group 0 purposes, your class of travel is wholly irrelevant, whether your ticket is paid or redemption is wholly irrelevant, and any non-BA status is wholly irrelevant.

I flew on the BA176 from JFK to LHR on Wednesday. Group 0 & 1 were called together. Scrum Down.
LHR to ZRH on Saturday: Group 0 called way ahead of Group 1.
ZRH to LHR today; Group 0 & 1 called together.
not exactly systematic.

No I wasn't annoyed as a CW pax and neither seemingly was the other GGL (who was in F anyway), that would definitely have tipped us into DYKWIA territory! The poor gate agent was having enough problems with the assistance passengers (who became surprisingly spry on the inclined jetway to the upper deck) and their extended families, and the parents with surprisingly mature looking 'under 5s' also seeking to pre-board.

The salient point (and why I posted it) was the fact there had been a staff training video for gate agents so implementation from Tuesday onwards should be interesting.

Would love to see if it says something along the lines of “our policy is to board strictly by group numbers but use your own discretion as to how many group numbers you choose to lump together. And it is up to you whether you choose to count up or down that list. Be creative!”

I think this has been mentioned before but I imagine the calling of multiple group numbers probably has something to do with BA trying to improve their ontime realibility.

So I lost GGL status at end February (tier point end 8 Jan), semi retirement, but have group 0 on my last 4 boarding passes. I am gold for life however. This a glitch or a perk for gold for life? Am not complaining!

That would be nice if true for GfLs..

But even as a GGL I have only had Group 0 on my GVA sectors - it does seem like some bedding in is still in order 😁

Very much looking forward to my flight tomorrow ex LHR to see what happens
