Firstly no-one needs to be sitting in F before anyone else in long-haul. You're wiser being in CCR longer. Secondly there's hardly 100 in Group 1, ever! Even on flights to JFK in F, there's a couple of handful's of Group 1.
My experience is that it very much varies by aircraft. If you get one of the 8*F 777's with crew bunks above Row 1, there is no overhead space for those passengers and so overhead space can run out fairly fast in the First cabin.
It's fine on the A380 I find. My little wheelie fits in the coat closet by the seat quite nicely as it is too wide for the overhead above Row 1 where the plane starts to narrow.
