Interesting, I've never gotten one, but I've used Via very rarely in the last six months or so.

I wonder how they handle the six seat issue, since people typically buy a block of credits, rather than paying per ride. Does the software actually keep track of someone's credit balance, and whether the current balance is "tainted" with credits bought with a commuter benefits card?

On the website they say, "Members using commuter benefits cards always ride in vehicles which can seat six or more," and "Via also offers a private ride option when available. Commuter benefits users are excluded from any private ride options." The wording doesn't make it clear how they decide who is/isn't a "commuter benefits" user. The "right" way to do it would probably be to track "tainted" credits using a FIFO model. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did something simpler (which could be good or bad for the user, depending on which lazy route they took). If you have used a benefits card with your Via account, do you see the private ride option when you do an intra-Manhattan ride? If not, try deleting the benefits card from your payment methods and see if the private rides show up then.

I don't see private rides. I do see express rides as an option, though...

Dial7 Bridge Tolls now use E-ZPass rate

Just noticed that my last two Dial7 rides used the E-ZPass discounted rate of $5.76 for the Triboro bridge, rather than the previous exorbitant rate. ^

Can I confirm that for Dial7 EWR-NYC I don't need to pre-book as they just send from the limo lot, correct?

Could anyone recommend a car service to take an unaccompanied minor (15years old) from JFK to Manhattan. They would need met with a name board.

Most traditional car services offer "meet-and-greet" or "inside pickup" options. Beware that there are considerable additional charges above their regular charges. At the low end Dial7 and Carmel can both do it (as can lots of other basic level services). Almost all the higher end services offer it, too.

BTW I wouldn't mention the age of the passenger to the car service because they might give you a hard time about it. I'd just treat it like a normal meet-and-greet pickup. I assume the kid will have a mobile phone and can call you or the car service if (s)he has trouble finding the driver?

Are there services with 2 people - 1 who meets at arrivals and a driver waiting at passenger pick-up instead of the parking lot? Ordering for someone who can walk but with limited mobility. Refuses wheelchair because she's not an "invalid" but would prefer to shorten the walk, if possible.

Thanks. He’s pretty street smart, just not been to the states before. He’ll have a phone and I take your point re not mentioning his age.

I'd try calling some of the higher end services to see if they can do it. Another option, assuming the passenger is capable of using a mobile phone to coordinate the pickup (some of my elderly relatives aren't so good with mobile phones), would be to use a regular "outside pickup" car service, and have a "red cap" (aka porter) help with luggage and getting to the curb. There are almost always red caps hanging out with big luggage carts near the baggage claims and I'll bet they charge a lot less than what car services would charge for a 2-person meet-and-greet service.

Are Dial7 and Carmel reliable for JFK pickup if you call I’m advance and give them your flight info? We’d like an inside pickup but are concerned they’ll be late. Does dispatch track changes in expected arrival time or is that too much to expect?

I never have used them for inside pickup but I've always gotten a car within minutes even without a reservation from Carmel when I used them in the past. I assume they track your flight then assign your driver for the pickup when it has landed.

Any recommendations for a family of 5 (3 kids over 8) arriving 10pm mid-December? JFK to midtown.
