Again, read the whole thread and particularly the post I linked to above which says it is not valid in the NYC tri-state area so you're not going to be able to use it for a JFK trip.

Reading the whole post that you partially quoted there indicates that the booking which got the $12 discount was made in Florida, not New York.

Thanks for sorting that out!

If anybody could also answer my 2nd question (cancellation experiences) I would be very happy! This is a great forum. Too bad I just found it yesterday and not much earlier.

Carmel cancel expiriences

Hi,

I canceled a reservation that I made via the Carmel app and that I already paid for. As I have seen now looking at the reservation itself it states at the very end that all purchases are non refundable. I called Carmel and they say I get my money back in 3 to 5 days. Does anyone have experience here?

I've brought the OP's questions together in a single thread in the NYC forum, and have edited out the interim posts made by members in order to try to be helpful to the OP as to where to post. Ocn Vw 1K, Senior Moderator.

I've used both Dial7 and Legends.

Dial7 gets the job done and is very reasonably priced, but their online reservation system is flaky (particularly when it comes to coupons, which often are accepted online, but then don't show up in your confirmation e-mail), the cars tend to be a little beat up, and the drivers like to play games where they try to get you to pay them cash rates for EZ Pass tolls.

Legends has a more robust online reservation system, nicer cars, and very professional drivers. They also offer child seats on request. BUT they are more expensive.

Can anyone recommend a decent company to use and rough price weeknight from LGA to NJ?

Price is going to depend where in NJ you're headed. As for company, the wiki has the range, from Dial 7/Carmel at the bottom end to Elite or Carey at the top end.

You can plug in your trip to the Dial 7 site and get a quote.

Dial7 $7 Discount Code: LEAD7

Just received by email. Better than the standard $6 WS2017 discount code on their website.

I've started to be keen on using VIA. Ride share but $5 for most rides in MNH. Pretty nice compared to $2.75 for subways.

I used to use them quite a bit, but find UberPool to offer better service (fewer stops, closer pickup/dropoff) and lower price for my commute.

FYI, if you have a commuter benefits account, you can use that card for Via or UberPool.

Mrs. dstan used Via extensively when she had a bum foot and walking the subway stairs was too tough. She loved it as a great deal, and was able to manage the short walks to/from the dropoff/pickup points.

But if you do use a commuter benefit card, under IRS rules the e-hail service isn't supposed to allow vehicles with less than 6 passenger seats to pick you up, so your wait times could be a little longer.

Yup. All Via vehicles qualify anyway, and I've never seen a meaningful difference in timing for UberPool.

At least when I last used Via (it's been a few months) they had quite a few sedans in their fleet (which wouldn't qualify for commuter benefit rides) in addition to the vans and suburbans. Has that changed?
