According to NPR, the CDC upgraded its tracking and webpage. The page is at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...illance-report and the NPR report is at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...illance-report

I added the CDC page to the Wiki.

Good that they are doing something, but that pages seems weak to many other national websites. Or NYC's website even.

Edit: I dug in and found this page which is interesting... https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/index.htm

Check out table 3.

It’s always been a partial list, and it is missing more and more companies and institutions that are also working on such developments.

CDC has started antibody testing using antibody test from Cellex

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/0...d-tests-165116

FDA granted emergency authorization of the test just in the last two days:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first blood test that looks for the antibodies against the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This is different than assays that test for presence of the virus—those test to determine if a patient has COVID-19. These new antibody tests determine if the person was exposed to the virus, had COVID-19 and recovered. And it suggests, if positive, that the person is now immune to COVID-19 and can’t get it again.

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina-based Cellex was granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) on its test yesterday.

The test is performed on a blood sample taken from a patient’s vein and can be performed by laboratories certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA), the Health and Human Services division that oversees clinical diagnostic testing in the United States.

The authorization stated, in part, “Results are for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, IgM and IgG that are generated as part of the human immune response to the virus. IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 are generally detectable in blood several days after initial infection, although levels over the course of infection are not well characterized. IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 become detectable later following infection. Positive results for both IgG and IgM could occur after infection and can be indicative of acute or recent infection.”
Other antibody testing efforts are also starting up.

is reportedly to begin antibody testing on Monday as well, using an internally developed test. Elitza Theel, director of the Mayo Clinic laboratory testing COVID-19 antibody tests, told Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), “It’s important to know that these types of tests are different than all of the molecular tests that are being done off of nasal swabs or throat swabs. Those tests detect viral genetic material [to show whether the coronavirus has infected that person].”

Theel also pointed out that, in some cases, it takes 10 to 11 days for an individual’s immune system to attack the virus and produce the antibodies. That’s why the tests won’t be used to diagnose patients with COVID-19 that are showing symptoms within the last two or three days.

Theel also says Mayo hopes to have the tests available next week, but because of a limited supply, will be doing a slow roll out and hope that commercial manufacturers will speed production in the next few weeks.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this making the rounds til today as it was published back on March 31st. NHK shows through laser photography that the droplets that come from our mouth and nose stay around a lot longer than people think. Check out the video...

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/ataglance/844/

There is a longer video too somewhere on the site.

Not sure if this has been posted here yet:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...99077X20300858

"No Evidence of Rapid Antiviral Clearance or Clinical Benefit with the Combination of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin in Patients with Severe COVID-19 Infection"
together with the Swedish clinical trial being pulled altogether because of too-dangerous side effects, NOT a good luck for anyone who prematurely advocated for taking/prescribing this.

Also: https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2...led-comparison

"Neither surgical nor cotton masks effectively filtered SARS–CoV-2 during coughs by infected patients"

welp

Well there are still plenty of studies going on, especially in France and elsewhere in Europe. I'm not sure the jury is out yet.

The first paper is from A study in France (not sure if it's the study you were thinking of).

The second article was published today so I'm not sure if it can be old news - maybe a preprint somewhere was discussed?

If you do a search in French, you will find more news. Here is such an article. https://www.ouest-france.fr/economie...stions-6800796

This is a lively topic in French media if you follow it.

Is there a link for the Swedish trial?

Here's a tweet, the original article is unfortunately in Swedish:

I'll see if I can find an English article and will edit if I do.

EDIT: This one references the same patient so I'll assume it's related, given it also came out today: https://www.newsweek.com/swedish-hos...ffects-1496368

Some cool news....in the 1950 and 60s, western priests went to Taiwan to help them - especially the poor in remote areas. Many of them were Italian and stayed there all these years.

With Italy being hit hard, one priest appealed to the Taiwanese for donation last week. The goal was NT$11M (about US$365,000 / €337,000) before April 15th. Today, they reached NT$120M (US$3.97M / €3.68M) and had to call off the donation.
