QANTAS UPDATE ON CHINA SERVICES Published on 1st February 2020 at 14:25

  • Suspension of mainland China services from 9 February 2020
  • Reflects impact of international travel bans on crew logistics across broader network
  • No change to Qantas services between Australia and Hong Kong
Qantas will suspend its two direct services to mainland China (Sydney-Beijing and Sydney-Shanghai) from 9 February until 29 March 2020[1].

This follows entry restrictions imposed by countries including Singapore and the United States, which impact the movement of crew who work across the Qantas International network.

These entry restrictions pose significant logistical challenges for rostering crew to operate mainland China services, leading to the need to temporarily suspend these flights.

Wasn’t one or the other of these due to be canned anyway? SYD-PEK IIRC?

so that’s basically the route cancelled from 6/2 instead of 29/3

Little suprised still flying to 9 Feb. Future bookings must have fallen off a cliff and expect QF had many cancellations

Yes. Would guess SYD-PEK will not be back

Qantas is axing its underperforming Sydney-Beijing route from March due to stiff competition from Chinese airlines and weak business-class demand.

Qantas has announced it will suspend flights from Sydney to Beijing in March 2020, and will serve its route “indirectly through partner airlines”.

It’ll have another HKG cancellation when I can reroute without massive penalty.

Not cancelling the services due to any health risk, just because the logistics of crew rostering is now difficult!

Wouldn't be surprised if it gets suspended earlier as Australia has now banned entry from China, with exceptions of Aus citizens and PR
