I sort of doubt that it is a glitch - I wonder if they are trying to force people going on to other cities to book through BRU or FRA. I wonder if I can book it on orbitz (though whether I will book it on UA metal at this point in increasingly unlikely).
Several months ago I was booking a multi-city international itinerary in paid business on the old site. For one of the legs it was only offering me GlobalFirst seating even though Business was wide open. I didn't understand it but I just booked a different (connecting) flight. The flight offering GF was a nonstop flight while other flights had connections.

As a side note, the flights I ended up booking had a much less expensive fare on the old site than what was showing on the "beta" new site. That lead me to never use the new site again until forced to a few weeks ago.

Booking Inquiry: Business vs. First on 2 Cabin Aircraft

What gives?

I'm booking a flight to/from IAD-SFO. These are 2 cabin aircraft.

New United.com gives me different pricing for Business vs. First. Even stranger still is that First is less expensive.

What should I book? Why the pricing difference? Please enlighten me!

Are you sure it's Business v First? IIRC on 2 cabin bookings the column order is Economy (lowest), Economy (flex), and First.

I think the Economy flex v. First is what you're looking at? It would make sense that a flex Y ticket may be a little more expensive than First.

Just an idea.

I reran a different search and that's what came up. The first search had Economy, Business and First. Maybe there is a bug on the labels!

weird. It's doing it again. How do I post screenshots?

When I search Economy, it populates as described above. When I search Business/First it populates as I first described!

Just as an aside, it seems to do this strange stuff only regarding the premium classes. Economy usually seems the same as orbitz. I guess they don't think it is as important to sell premium tickets.

Pricing oddity

Mod: this may need to be moved to an existing thread.

This is very strange.

I'm looking at ORD-FCO on July 31 returning on August 18, 2016

I select Business and Upgrade (to GF) with miles.

The outbound prices at $1,548 for no upgrade, and if I select that the return is offered at $1,766 for a total of $3,313.

But, when I ask for upgrade on the outbound (available) for ~$500 and 20,000K miles, the cheapest business return then becomes $4,177 (before upgrading) instead of the $1,766 I'd been seeing, with the upgrade being even more.

An agent was unable to replicate this.

I had this looking at flights IAD-FRA next year. In retrospect, I should have checked to see if it was pulling up different fare classes, but I didn't think about it. Though I don't know why that would be done for miles and copay upgrade as opposed to a GPU. Following some advice I found on the new united.com wiki, I just search using tampermonkey to look for R class now and don't use the upgrade button.

Definitely a website bug. I reproduced this, and it is re-pricing the outbound in D when you select a return flight option. The outbound fare difference from P to D is being included in the price shown for the return. I can only assume this has something to do with D being the lowest fare with no copay, and some false conclusions being made by the backend that this is the cheapest fare construction.

You could see some differences due to different fares not necessarily being combineable into RTs with upgradeable fares, but the difference should not be so enormous.

I'd thought of that, but the agent couldn't reproduce it.

There was also a discrepency with the app for the same item. Just doing straight business the prices for the outbound and return didn't match what I was seeing on the website, but the total fare was the same. So, same total price, but the per leg charges were different.

Issues pricing Multi-City award

Anyone else having issues pricing out multi-city award tickets on ua.com? I have checked individual legs and they are available, but when I load them in to one itinerary, it won't price anything. Just says the flight schedule is unavailable. For reference, i'm trying to price a north american (mexico, US) roundtrip with one stop-over. The error I get says:
We are unable to process your request. Please see the message below for details. No flight schedule could be retrieved using your search criteria. Please use the form below to start a new search.
Thanks!

Adding either a stopover or an OJ can break the online award system (and has been a problem for years and years). Sometimes works, sometimes does not. No new to the new site.

Got a letter from Chase today - United is fighting me on the chargeback. Specifically saying I purchased a "Business First" (sic) upgrade and a screenshot highlighting the non-refundable nature of the fare (as if that has anything to do with it...) So tomorrow I'll fax Chase back a screenshot of United's own policy regarding co-pays ...

Upgrade to C - $480 cash or $550 + 20,000 miles

I have an upcoming TATL reservation were I am waiting for a GPU to clear. Out of curiosity I checked the "Upgrade Your Flight" tabs to see what it would cost outright. It is either $480 cash or $550 + 20,000 miles. The cash+miles offer is obviously a fixed number based on my fare class. Curious none-the-less.

The new website was also trying to sell me an "Economy lowest" ticket for $681, whereas "Economy flexible" was $459.

EDIT: Just checked a second TATL reservation. $515 cash or $550 + 20,000 miles to upgrade to C.
