Seems to be back in business again.... It really is a bit annoying that when making your travel plans, you cannot finish your hotel booking.
But I just read in some blogs that when discussing the GP in Chicago, there will be a new vendor in the future. Will probably mean problems again in the transitioning phase. But hopefully after that a more stable website.

I like how it gracefully redirects traffic to http://216.205.86.51/
They don't even have a domain to use? Did they forget to renew hyatt.com?

In the middle of making a reseration I was redirected to http://maintenance.hyatt.com/

Hyatt Gold Passport Auto-Downgrading Computer Glitch
FYI, everyone should check your Hyatt GP account. I was just told by a rep have had a serious computer problem and mistakenly downgraded a lot of members. I cannot use my Diamond status for my upcoming trip.
Me thinks I will go back to SPG.

Regardless, leaving Hyatt seems kind of drastic, but oh well. I imagine you'll leave SPG the next time they have IT troubles?

Hello, newbie here.
My first choice for hotel stays has always been Marriott. I did not know Marriott's services was so good until now that I decided to try the Hyatt brand.
I was making a reservation directly on Hyatt.com, during the process the Chase Hyatt Visa card ad showed up and so I applied for the card to pay for my reservation with the goodies it offered. But somehow after the credit card was approved, it didn't direct me back to the reservation page. Please note that the Hyatt GP number, reservation confirmation number, and also the new credit card number are all generated auto within the system that is not shown to the customer. So I was left stuck there for a couple hours, that I cannot make/recall a reservation or sign up for a new GP. Emailed the GP and they didn't respond until a day later to let me know of my GP number.
And the response was only about getting my GP number, and it is not the Platinum status as promised by the credit card. I was worried that the reservation I made during the credit card application is still on hold with the new card, plus the room that I originally booked was no longer available, I emailed them again back and forth 4 times and GP still didn't understand my concern.
Very frustrated, I called the reservation assistance 1888 591 1234 to explain the issues and to check the status of the reservation. The guy on the other end sounded annoyed and yelled that I can just make another reservation with a different credit card. OK! Very helpful.
So I made two other reservations to cover my 4 nights stay because the room type that I wanted is not available for the 4th day. I then called Hyatt Place reservation 1-800-993-4751. This time, the gal helped to combine the two reservations with a request on the room type, and confirmed that there's no other reservation existed. Sounded more helpful than that guy but now I can no longer make changes to my reservation online and have to call them instead. Lucky that my reservation is for 3 weeks later, when I will receive my Hyatt credit card to update the Platinum status before my stay starts.
Sorry that I need to vent out my frustration here. Just hope that there's no more hassle at check-in.

Platinum status will be absolutely nothing at a Hyatt Place except for some additional points on your room rate. Even diamonds don't really get anything at Hyatt Places.

Understand. I must confess I care more about the 2 free nights and the $50 credit if I am able to pay my reservation with the card than being a Platinum member. I should just stick with Marriott which I am happy with and save myself from bad customer service.

No question that bad customer support is just that, but maybe a little understanding that your question might not have been as obvious would go a long way. Not many people will be having problems just with making a reservation. And HP is not exactly the most aspiring part of Hyatt. Good but basic, nothing more.
Losing your prejudice after just one attempt might also help, especially since you seem to be after the freebies more than that you are looking for a good experience. Why not start with an open mind, you might even enjoy those free nights at a decent property :-).

Maybe you should.... or maybe you should also realize that it's expecting a bit too much to apply for a credit card and being able to use it before your application is even approved?

And when booking a HP I am not expecting a 5-star resort experience, but I guess it's a good choice for business travel? that it's similar to the Courtyard? And thanks for reminding that initially I decided to try HP is for the hotel location and not the freebies, so I still hope that my first stay with HP would be a pleasant one, and now with the free nights Hyatt already guaranteed themselves a second chance.
