Meaningless question. Hotel booking business is a round the clock business if it has locations covering all continents.

This is a US-Based Hotel chain that has presence All Over the World despite its much smaller foot print that the other chains, and have its MAJORITY properties in North America.

Naturally the site should at a minimum be UP at least for North America business hours, as well as European business hours which are just a few hours time difference from the North American one.

They should also be up for Asian business hours.

In other words, they should be up 24/7 and maintenance should only be done during the least disruptive time to their worldwide customers, in particularly to their North American customers.

Or may be you think it is OK to put the site down for maintenance because it is now after business hours in Europe? That would not even work for a Banking site, let alone a hotel booking site.

Hyatt is an American-based company out of Chicago. The fact that the Hyatt.com website and related websites is "down for maintenance" during the end of the standard business day CST is not a good situation. Hyatt's internet-facing server and infrastructure operations groups are likely staffed heavy during normal business hours (8am-5pm) CST and rely on on-call and NOC-based support afterhours. So while the hotel reservation business is 24/7 and the dot-com operations is a 24/7 division, I will guarantee you that it is not staffed at full capacity 24/7. The "maintenance" splash page is obviously not indicative of planned maintenance.

And for the record, I am in heavily involved in an infrastructure operations division for a heavy traffic website (a lot more traffic than Hyatt's websites), so I have a decent handle on how things operate. In fact, I had a nice conversation with a colleague earlier today that used to work for IHG and it is simply amazing how little work goes into hotel companies' internet-facing infrastructure and related operational support.

There are lots of computer gurus on this FT group. I'm one of 'em. Why don't we put together a crack team and go fix Hyatt's website for 'em, perhaps in exchange for lifetime Diamond? Naah, never mind, they give lifetime Diamond after just one measly mistake by their marketing department . Let's fix the website in exchange for lifetime Courtesy Card.

Hey I never got CC after 11 years of coordinating and moderating this forum as well as TOBB. And years ago even corrected their incorrect signup link for one of the FFN promos (and I'm not a techie)

Pretty shocked how often the website is down or not working. Currently trying to book a last minute trip to NYC, can't log on to my account or keep getting an error code. I'll move my groups stay to the new Marriott, Courtyard-Residence Inn Central Park, their website seem to be highly more reliable and user friendly.

No access to MyElite rates

Sorry for the cross-posting, but for me this has gone on for three days now; and others have confirmed that this is happening to them, too; and that -- if and when you call in to Hyatt GP -- the MyElite rates are indeed bookable:

One can see at the hotel site a MyElite rate (telltale signs: low, familiar prices, ending in $xxx.20 which, when multiplied by 1.25, equal the Hyatt Daily Rate). But when you click on <Check Rates> the MyElite rate does not show up.

Yes, I know that all properties have the discretion of not giving MyElite rates, and, yes, I know that since the inception of MyElite rates it has sometimes been necessary to log in and then log out, refresh, clear cookies, and just try, try, and try again ... but the bug I am referring to is something different. As ephemeral evidence, last night as I was trying the n-th property for the umpteenth time, a MyElite rate tab was suddenly there -- first time in two days ! -- and yet vanished again and was unreproduceable there or elsewhere.

I see this happening as well for the properties I'm looking at, MER available when on the overview for multiple properties but not when you try to book the specific property. Doesn't make a difference which browser is used or if you are logged-in or not..... extremely annoying to having to call.

No IE on a Mac, but I've had no issue with Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.

IE7 is kind of ancient though, so I wouldn't begrudge a website that doesn't support that anymore.

There is a bright side to their website being glitchy/not working.

I have recently made some super low My Elite rate bookings which appear only for certain dates (i.e., only Friday and Saturday night). This makes sense because the hotel is typically booked solid on weekdays and offers a price almost double for weekdays for business travelers vs weekends. However I noticed if you play around with the dates when searching by adding one day to the weekend before or after (possibly doing it a few times) The same weekend My Elite Rate gets added to the back end/front end of the weekend effectively giving you a four or five day stay for the same weekend MY Elite Rate. In my case I got a five day stay for $65 (Thursday - Tuesday), whereas the regular weekday stay was $159.

Add an old suite upgrade (Feb 28, 2014 expiry) that I shifted from a previous reservation to this new reservation and life is good. Still have my 4 diamond suite upgrades available to use.

Thank you Hyatt IT.

My reservation at the Andaz Tokyo is showing up for the wrong number of nights on the Android App.

Meaning, on the main site, when I go on the Hyatt Gold Passport landing page for my account, the Andaz Tokyo reservation doesn't show up at all (however, it does appear when I click the "My Reservations" link.
