Is there much else in ELP that would make it worth visiting for a weekend? Las Cruces, NM is interesting as is Guadalupe Mountains National Park. |

Other than that, what did you think of the hotel? I'm staying there on my way to Houston for my wedding. I'm always concerned about anything dealing with staying in El Paso.
I would stay there again, and it's probably the best choice of the hotels adjacent to the airport. I also like the newish Hilton Garden Inn that opened last year adjacent to the UTEP campus. But with a 6:15 AM flight I was determined to stay close to the airport, and you can't get much closer than the Marriott, which is on Airway right at the entrance to the airport. |

Hmm, that may be an option. I chose Marriott for the points and the fact that it was near the airport so maybe there is less chance of the rental car being broken into, unlike what happened two weeks ago to me in PHX. Perhaps the HGI is the way to go, it's $4 cheaper than the Marriott and sweet mother, I love me some Whataburger. My fiance is a big corn dog fan so she can get her fix at Weinerschnitzel. I also like that it's a new property. You have given me a quandary, sir.
Honestly, you'll be fine either way. The Marriott has a few more amenities and is a heck of a lot more convenient to the airport, but both are in decent areas and the rooms and staff in both are very nice. HGI does have free Internet, though, while Marriott charges $10/day. |

Dunno how much time you have to play with in ELP, but White Sands is definitely worth a look. It's only about an hour's drive from ELP. The dunes are simply stunning.

It's a convenient place to reach some areas like White Sands (~1hr drive), Big Bend National Park (~2:30 drive), Roswell/Carlsbad Caverns (~2:30 drive), that are otherwise pretty remote from just about everywhere.
There's also Guadalupe Mountains National Park and the Davis Mountains, which are both stunningly beautiful areas, and both are within a 2-4 hour drive of El Paso. |
Oh, no. It's now possible to map out your hotel stays. See here. Could someone drop by Downtown Houston and inject me with some Lithium? Someone please restrain ssullivan to ensure that he doesn't read this post. Donate to your local OCD Charity today, and help stop the madness.

With my FT preferences, this isn't page 888. It's page 666.
(Not that any of that matters to me.) |
