The USPS screws up Express Mail so frequently that we will pay the extra dollar or two and use Fedex, which screws up hardly ever.

We send 10-12 with them each month and the last foulup I remember was Christmas week four or five years ago.

No, but a friend of mine might need one for an 810. Where did you get it? Good price?

$100 on eBay. Not too bad except for the part where it turns out that I didn't need it. A pair of slip joint pliers managed to get the hinge back into place. I wish I had known before dropping the $100 on the screen; hopefully I'll recover some of the spend when I put it back on eBay tomorrow.

I was watching the Texas beatdown of Mizzou on ABC last night, and I saw a lot ads for WN. Of course WN is not in ATL, will probably never be in ATL, and the nearest WN airport is 2-2.5 hrs away. So why am I seeing these Adverts on the tele?

ConciergeMike Oct 19, 2008 8:56 am

Because the rumor/wish is that WN will use SAV to serve the area, not unlike using ISP to serve NYC Metro.

BHM is both closer and faster to get to ATL than SAV.

USPS Express Mail sucks. A package that shipped "overnight" on Thursday didn't arrive yesterday or today. I now have to wait until Monday for it. Not happy at all.

I've never had bad luck with them. The one thing I have noticed is that they never have a blanket overnight delivery policy. It's always quoted as "one to two days." A lot of it depends on both the origin and destination being in, or close to, a large metro area, and the time the package is dropped off at the origin. In nearly every case it's possible to get it delivered between any two points in the continental US overnight, provided you drop the package early enough at the original destination. But in some smaller towns in rural areas that means the package has to be dropped by around 9:30 AM.

In fact, they boarded yesterday by splitting up elites by row. In other words, they split the plane up and boarded rows 16-29 for elites first. This seemed very inefficient to me, as I figured that there wouldn't be very many elites in the back of the plane. Wouldn't it make more sense - and be more fair - to board by elite levels? I wouldn't think this would still be hard to figure out.

My IAH-CLE flight on Friday did this. On that flight there were a significant number of elites behind the exit row.

It didn't really bother me, and there wasn't any issue with overhead bin space filling up during EliteAccess boarding. It was probably faster than boarding by elite level, as passengers in the front of the plane weren't blocking those headed to the back during the boarding process.

Good Saturday Morning, Box! :D I'm happily posting from my restored desktop that is finally back in working order. ATL pics and others are processing as we speak, will post links when done.

Congrats on having a working computer!

Same here.

You actually had to see that movie to realize that?

Because you're watching a game between two teams in states that have a heavy WN presence. Those adds weren't sold for the Atlanta market; they were sold to WN for the full broadcast area, and since most people watching that game are probably in areas of the country who are served quite well by WN, it makes sense for WN to advertise during the game, even if it means there are viewers in other parts of the country not served by WN watching the game.

It's just like how there are no Staples office supply stores in Houston (or at least there weren't; I think I heard a rumor that they were opening in Houston) but for years Houston has had Staples ads on the TV during prime time network programming. Those ads were sold at the national level, so even markets where the stores don't exist see them. Ditto for the K-Mart ads on Houston TV after K-Mart had long closed all of its Southeast Texas stores.

I didn't log on to FT at all yesterday. I'm not sure when that last happened.

It was a busy Saturday for us. Spent the morning at a friend's yard sale getting rid of some of our old junk, including selling all of the last of our furniture we were getting rid of. Now there's $80 more in my pocket and the table and chairs, entertainment center, and coffee table that have been cluttering up a corner in our living room for almost two months while we tried to get rid of them on Craigslist are gone!

That was followed by the awesome Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and parade.

And then we were off to buy a new sofa for the living room. Instead of buying the sofa we looked at a week ago, we found one we liked even better. But it was smaller. However, unlike sofa number 1, sofa number 2 had a matching chair. So instead of a sofa we came home with a sofa and a chair. Now the living room looks wonderful, except in the corner where the old furniture was sitting while it waited for a new home is the old sofa that the cats had destroyed. It's now up on Craigslist for a very cheap price. Hopefully somebody will call very soon and come get it.

The flight did leave on time, and I still got my bag in the overhead, so I guess it was really inconsequential. :D

True, but the WN board seems to really be pulling for SAV. I don't get why either, but the fact remains that a huge hole in the WN footprint is that Eastern GA/SC area, and some people feel that there are large enough secondary markets that WN likes to use to avoid the major metro (delay-prone) airports.

Thank you, and no, but...there's nothing interesting to me hitting theaters until Pride & Glory comes out, as I like Edward Norton's work and I like cop movies. I kinda was up for something different, and they were free passes from work. Would I have voluntarily paid to go see the dog movie? Hell no. But I had a Saturday off with the fiancee, and given the rarity of us being together on a weekend day, I thought I'd give in and go see it since the future MIL recommended it to her. The future MIL in question had the munchkins with her when she went to see it, and I can totally get how a 5-year-old would find it a hilarious movie.

Staples is now in Houston. I saw one off of the Southwest Freeway. Apparently, there are 3 here.
