Happend to me on my return flight from the DO. Pushy US Scareways passenger that had asked about what Zone was boarding when F boarded. I had to explain the CO doesn't use zone boarding. I knew how to get from EWR back to PHL at least (had to explain it to the GA's even). She would have gotten her self lost someplace in North Philly or something.

I think when you are hopeing for a bump, you don't get them. I was wishing the other week and was real happy when the flight disappeared from co.com because it was booked solid, but it came back and it left with empty seats. :-(

I've only had one chance to take a bump since I've started concerning myself with same. That chance resulted in the multiple-post saga of what to do with the cert, as well as what to do with my father's cert that he quite ridiculously demanded that I compensate him for. I was very lucky with that one chance, because my father and I were the only two volunteers on that flight, as for some reason the other 35 people at the gate needed to get back to DAY on that very flight, I guess. The GA's were getting no one else and were giving me hopeful and slightly cranky looks while I was selling my father on taking the bump. Long story short, I was #1 on the list the one time that it's concerned me and I stayed #1 on the list.

To answer the other question, having a seat in F, whether paid or EUA'd, likely is a deterrent to a GA. It's not unreasonable for that F-seated person to want to be reaccommodated in F, and it's nothing more than a numbers game because there's a lot more Y than F. I wonder if sfogate will post her thoughts on this.

ETA : I hit the "More Is More Multi Quote Button "

My time is limited in HKG and it would have to be serious $$$ for me to even consider flying out of JFK the next day. I would not mind getting in a few hours later on another carrier.

I just checked other flights and it looks like co has one of the latest departures from the east coast.

Aren't there some late-night departures from the West-Coast that could be connected to? I would imagine Transcon loads will be light on December 26. Perhaps an EWR-SFO-HKG routing might work?

I like this..... I am going to check this all out.

Thanks

If they have, did you push to get the VDB for yourself?

This happened yesterday and I am out a $350 voucher, CO paid for one person to fly AA, and overnighted another person and flew them out today on CO metal. I would have just gotten into OKC very early this morning at no cost but the voucher. Something tells me I need to get a little more pushy with the bump chances. I should also mention that I was in FC so I am thinking that it may have factored into not getting the bump as the two other people didnt seem to be people with status.

Does anyone know if being in FC lessens your chances of a VDB?

I always just stand there if they say they may need someone just so they dont forget about me. Spinky and I were in F on SMF-IAH and were able to take the bump and get confirmed F seats the next day.:)

My recent $300 VDB Voucher was obtained despite being in F. I was, however, flying MSY-IAH, which tends to have a fair amount of spare F seats to work with. At time of rebooking, I was placed into F aboard the next morning's 753 to IAH.

Every year for Christmas, its become a tradition for me to cash in my miles and get the Canuck a nice vacation. Unfortunately, C:rolleyes: is absolutely confounding with their mileage redemption(s).

If I wanted to do this itinerary: NYC -- CDG -- ZAG with a stop over of a few days in CDG, how many miles would it cost in J? On Star, you're allowed a stop over as long as it's at a hub, is the same true for SkyTeam?

Anyone ever been to Croatia? I hear the Dalmation coast is nice.

In all my years of flying I have never been able to accept a VDB cert. Been close, but never bumped.

It doesn't, IME.

Croatia is amazing!

This is a trip that should be 100K miles, though it might be easier to take another carrier onwards from CDG and fly directly to the coast. Otherwise, you are going to need to call on this one as CO.com will bomb out on you.

You are allowed one stopover on a given trip.

You are allowed a Stopover on a reward. It will cost the same amount of miles as any other J ticket to Europe: 100,000 at Standard redemption levels. I've heard that The Dalmatian Coast is very nice (Split, Especially, which also has a stellar Le Meridien Property).

In college I would specifically pick flights to get the VDB's.

I went, I think, 8 consecutive trips without having to pay for a flight. I aggravated the heck out of folks wanting to go places with me (e.g. spring break) and my family who expected me at a certain time, but it was worth it.

And that was before I even knew of FT!

A NYTimes reporter just called. I gave some quotes relating to bag fees (spurred from a post on FT) and they're running with the story and want to photograph me. I'm fine with having the quotes in the paper, but do I dare show my ugly mug? :o

I wish I could have done that. With my particular case the GA asked for three volunteers, three hands went up, he acknowledged the three of us and waved us to the podium. Two collage students then decided to high tale it to the podium and make a stink that they were first in lines. The worse part was the GA wouldn't resonded when repeatedly asked if he needed the rest of us anymore or not so we can board the plane. The only nice thing out of that it was the first time I got to "cut in line" when I boarded by traversing the blue carpet.

Thanks for the fast replies on this (and ALCO too). I <3 FT.

I saw on the not-so-reliable awards thing that DL flights are 90k miles across the pond. Is there any basis in reality for that? Or, because the itinerary couldn't be accomplished 100% on DL is that moot?

I've been so mis-quoated by the NY Times a few years ago I'm still mad at them about it.
