FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: GW McLintock
This thread is meant to serve as a repository for links to "ride reports" for vehicles offered in the Hertz fleet. Given the vast rental power of the Hertz-FlyerTalk community, we can leverage that power to create a detailed index of rental reviews so that viewers will be able to discern rental car selection.

The car models which have links embedded (in blue) are those with threads here on Flyertalk which are "ride reports", with corresponding car classification and EPA MPG ratings.

If you can't find a ride report, cross-check with the National or Avis Forums' Ride Report Indexes

APR25 LAX IFAR Rental 2014 CHevrolet Captiva 2WD

Hi all,

I rented an IFAR AT LAX on April 25, for a 11 day rental.

They gave me a 2WD 2014 Chevrolet Captiva with 6800 miles reading on the odometer. this adjusted to be 45$ off the total rental charge compared to my original IFAR price.

It came equipped and ready with Sirius Satellite Radio (all channels available) for free, and OnStar as well.

I imagine this is a new car that's why all of the extras are free due to free trials?

We had 4 people with 2 large suitcases and 2 carryons, as well as 4 backpacks.

The trunk fit everything fine. But no extra space available.

The car was essentially new, and was grateful for what I got on such a busy weekend at LAX.

Fuel economy did not compare to a Toyota, but the car had good oomph on it's 2.5L 182hp turbo charged engine when it wasn't on Eco mode.

Cheap economical car for a road trip in CA with USAA discount.

Taxes in with all under aged drivers ( 2 AAO's) for $482

Everything worked out.

Glad you liked it. I had one recently, and was rather indifferent to it. No amount of leather trim was going to get over the fact that the engine struck me as coarse and unrefined, and "good oomph" seemed somewhat lacking. At least the steering had some feel to it, unlike the RAV4.

Allow me (he says, putting his pedant's hat on) to correct you, though.

This is far from a new car. Launched in 2007 as the Opel/Vauxhall Antara in Europe, it was federalized to create the Saturn Vue. Soon after, Saturn was killed off, so to recoup some of the costs of Americanizing it, it was relaunched as a fleet sales only Chevy for the 2012 model year. 2014 MY year cars come only with Front Wheel Drive (the AWD option has been discontinued).

And the engine is 2.4 litres, not 2.5. And it is not turbo charged.

[/pedant mode off].

Finally got a whole load of the Hertz rentals I had on a US trip earlier in the year published at themotor.net

The one everyone has been patiently waiting for is the BMW M5, and you can find that one at http://themotor.net/?p=9522. Enjoy (I did, driving it!).

Wow, very helpful thread! Have a rental coming up--should I just paste my review in here, or create a separate post?

Aug 2015 LGW-LHR Mercedes C220 HGP

Picked up car newish Mercedes C220 diesel at LGW ~8K miles and noticed a strong air freshener smell but figured it was just cleaned and we're all good (more on this later). Anyway, left in a hurry as I was really late and on the M25 notice the nav and dash is all in Spanish! Yikes, not obvious how to reset it to English, so end up stopping and after some Internet research get it to back to English, yeah!

As soon as I get back on M25 it starts raining (no surprise there, it's summer in England), but the damn windscreen washers won't squirt any water -oh well, chalk it up to the usual Hertz QC (or lack of).

Next day, get in the car and it stinks of cigarettes. Smell is coming from the headliner and the air freshener was to cover up the cigarette smell up - pretty sad show. If I had not been out in the "sticks" I would have returned the car that day.

Overall it was a pretty awful car to drive, could never get comfortable and found the driving position just not to my liking. It was vey economical, got ~60MPG from the diesel, but it's still a grotty driving vehicle having been "ridden hard and put away wet" a few times I suspect.

On returning to LHR there was a mystery dent in the bumper (no idea how it happened) and I got hit up for about $500 US which was fair enough and I'll let the CC card sort it out.

Overall this experience reminded me why I switched from Hertz to National and that the lowest price isn't always worth it! Pretty dismal show on Hertz part and clearly they need better QC on the cars.

Rented a Toyota Corolla from Adelaide Downtown. I found the service to be a little cumbersome and it took longer than it probably should have done due to the lady behind the counter.

The car itself was immaculate and drove really well. A nice ECO feature too which told you when you were travelling at optimum fuel consumption rate. Upon return of the vehicle I was only charged for one days rental as opposed to the two, even though I took it back a few hours into the second days rental.

Overall a positive experience and I would recommend them in the future. One question I do have though is if I booked via an IHG rate, when can I expect my points to post to my IHG account?

just returned a FFAR which i rented @LAS 2 weeks ago. carfirmation was for an armada but had also the alternative for a Yukon.

Car was a 2017 white Yukon SLT with 6500 miles and was loaded. On star was expired but no issues there as i used my smartphone for navigation. Cruised through Arizona, Utah, Colorado and back. Ι returned it with 10000 miles and was sorry to let it go. Drove through the high desert, snowstorms in Vail and cruised on Las Vegas strip. Very spacious, nice soundsystem (Bose) and the heated and cooled seats were very usefull. I got 20.6 mpg for the whole duration of our roadtrip. Total cost for the reservation was 605$ (with all insurances included as i am from europe)
