I was booked with SkyMiles LHR-SEA-SNA (all DL operated) in Premium Select (main for the domestic leg). DL21 from LHR to SEA cancelled (auto rebooked onto next day LHR-MSP-SNA, DL operated) so I called and was rebooked to VIR105 LHR to SEA and DL SEA-SNA same day as originally scheduled.

My question really is, since award tickets normally only earn MQM/MQD when on DL Metal, can I use ORC to get MQM for the Virgin Atlantic leg.

Boarding pass shows Premium/G for the LHR-SEA leg and Y for SEA-SNA.
I don't see why not, your email to Delta should be about one sentence long: 'My booking on Delta flight 21 on xx/xx/xx was cancelled and i was rebooked on Virgin flight 105, please give me original routing credit for the flight I originally booked that was cancelled.'

I don't believe that ticket would have ever posted correctly to Delta without manual intervention after the fact.
They can tell. They don't know how much if any earned. However they know you credited it to AA.

In the case where Delta cancels the outbound of a round trip, wont rebook you, but advises you to buy a ticket on another carrier (and you retain and fly the return), is it possible to get ORC? Or does this only happen if Delta actually agrees to rebook you.

So far, they wont pay for the flights they told me to buy and ignored my request for ORC. But perhaps thats not a reasonable request on my part if I had to buy my own replacement flight?

(yes it just means I lose and lose again; but I really just want to know if I should push the ORC?

Who told you to buy another ticket? In 30+ years flying, I've never been told or heard of that.

The Delta Platinum agent. They didnt have any flights for days and days. Our hotel reservation wasnt moveable (sold out completely). I found a flight on JetBlue and asked if she could put us on that flight. She could not due to no interline and said flat out i advise you to book that flight and write customer service later asking for reimbursement - I cant help you get where you need to go.

(This was a crew issue on our flight but compounded by the weather everywhere else.)

Unfortunately, yes. Since we had a round trip that was the only way she could remove the segment such that we could fly the return back. Usually I book one way flights but for whatever reason did not in this case. It was an award ticket.

Ah -- the general rule is that you can get ORC or a refund but not both.

Thank you. I guess that explains why they ignored that part of my request Sort of a double whammy that they wouldnt rebook me and - as a further result- I lose the MQMs that had me choose DL in the first place. But things happen. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose

Asked here about ORC and double-dipping (just a few posts up).

To recap: DL rebooked me on AA. SC agent said I wouldn't earn Skymiles if changing the FF# to AA. Went for it anyway.

To my big surprise, I received mileage credit with both DL and AA. No intervention from my side necessary. AA miles posted right away, DL miles around 10-14 days later.

Is there a magic person or email to reach out to get ORC? When I've contacted United, it's always been very easy, and the miles appear days later, even in cases where travel involved partners.

My last one (DL metal, DL ticket) took 3 months and multiple calls to get ORC, and this current one has already been over a month and sometimes even the PM line will tell me completely wrong things (e.g. that I can't earn SkyMiles on a KLM-issued ticket)

I just went through this with Delta and a LATAM ticket. It took three calls. The first agent had absolutely no clue, the second one tried to tell me it was going to be automatic even though the trip was re-scheduled on AA and they had no way of knowing whether it was flown at all.. The third one suggested I should wait until all segments of the trip were flown, but after some gentle prodding agreed to call the skymiles people to try to get it resolved. It was done 15 minutes later. Based on this I would call again and insist that they call the skymiles line and resolve it for you right then.

Just back from a trip to Japan. On HND-ATL-MSP they asked for volunteers and so we got rebooked for the next day onto a nonstop HND-MSP (and then we volunteered again the next day!).
I seem to remember getting ORC more than once on a VDB situation; anyone with recent experience with that?
Thanks!
