I'm still resisting the current winter TATL fares.

$715 is a bit steep for a January L fare. Perhaps I should let patience reign. Open Jaw into AMS (and back from another city) is a good way to avoid the brunt of the ridiculous AMS taxes. AMS is almost as bad as the UK, these days.

I am still trying to figure out how to get to BRU.

I'm also contemplating switching to the Amex Platinum. The fee is a little higher than the Presidential Plus but there is access to more clubs. The only downside is that I've been to a lot of places recently that don't take Amex.

I'm generally pleased with the Amex Plat and the Customer Service Amex provides. I haven't yet had the opportunity to use it for Admirals Club access, but do appreciate that it's at least an option. Once CO moves to *A, Amex Plat will provide lounge access across all three major alliances.

VS UC from EWR-LHR is where it's at! :)

It isn't all that many more clubs, and in some cases it is fewer. The operating metal=club access limitation means things like no club access in MSP when flying on CO or in IAH when flying on NW or the like. Plus, AmEx has taken away a few features that actually made it a cost-effective option. I'm considering canceling when I'm up for renewal in February.

I just realized my Amtrak trip from last March never posted to my OP account. Is it too late to get credit?

What features were you using that you found useful/cost-effective that have since been terminated?

But does it really matter?

Yes, I hate mushrooms and eggplant, two ingredients CO likes to put on everything.

If the menu is going to be a repeat of everything drowning in mushroom sauce then I'm going to eat before I get on the flight (and I'll probably move my TA flying over to LH going forward since CO has such a limited list of ingredients).

It's as simple as that.

The price has increased significantly since I first got the card. The AmEx used to be cheaper than a standalone PC membership (for a non-elite). Now it is $450 annually. They had a domestic 2-4-1 deal that was decent and that I was able to use a few times. It probably saved me ~$5-700 over the past 18 months that it was a benefit. That benefit goes away on November 15th.

If you stay at the FHR properties or just want to keep a "free" SPG gold status then it is a decent deal. There's also the International 2-4-1 J/F program, though that is usually a waste of money. The concierge service is basically a guy sitting in Boston with the OpenTable website in front of them.

There's lots of discussion over in the AmEx forum about the end of the domestic 2-4-1 and how it is devaluing the card beyond what is probably reasonable.

I have not been paying attention. I was unaware that the domestic 2-4-1 benefit was terminating. :(

I haven't used FHR in quite some time (last time was at the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver, several years ago). I'm paid up through well into next year, so might as well bank enough points with MR to transfer at 1:1 into a useful program, and reconsider my options.

FYI - There's an okay Q-UP fare on NW AUS-MLB. You can route AUS-DTW-ATL-MLB, for about 6556 EQM (for ~$535). It's not the best deal in cpeqm, but it's a relatively cheap way of getting from Texas to Florida in the front cabin. A CR9 and EMB-170 can be worked into the mix on the itinerary, for those who haven't yet had the opportunity.

Still, not as good a deal as the MCO-BUR Q-UP that DL is offering for roughly the same price.

Africa was a pretty great vacation. I havea 52 page trip report in Word about our trip.

Not bookable through nwa.com (doesn't recognize MLB) but it does pull up on Orbitz.

Hmmm...I may have to try to nest one of these in to a Spring Training trip for next year that Mrs. sbm12 wants to take. Time to get planning again. :D
