+1. Never heard of her until today.

I'm listening to her yap away about Egypt right now. She has 5 more minutes to say something useful or I'm turning it off.

Ok, I pulled the trigger. I’m going to Belize. Now I have to sort out all the options for a hotel in Ambergris Caye.

I am not happy about flying AAnother AAirline, but for 130 bucks, what the hell.

now off to the cc to trade some pc passes for stickers, i think that what they call their upgrades.

It's the iTunes equivalent of mindless beach reading. The stories and such are sometimes pretty good...a couple that stick out were her take on the Northridge earthquake and a pilot's retelling of surviving a midair in an F/A-18 and watching the flaming pieces of his ride float down with him.

There are a lot of hotels in San Pedro town and there are also a few further south on the island (Victoria House is one). The beach is nicer the more south you are, IMO.

I was actually thinking about this last night when you posted that you would be on it today and I think I actually flew on one in March 1994, but I'm not positive. I think I picked it up flying BOS-ATL and the plane had just been delivered to DL and it was painted in the Atlanta Olympics livery. If that was the MD-90, and I think it was, I will need to go back and update my Flight Memory to reflect that. Come to think of it, I'll need to add the flight either way.

Been calling it that for years, ever since they put one in NYC at 26th & 7th and it was close enough to go shopping at.

Absolutely. The meat selection at Whole Foods is ^ but sometimes I cannot justify the extra $$$ when the difference is simply where I'm buying it. Chicken is a great example. I can get pretty good chicken at local grocery stores and a butcher down the street for a lot less than what I would find at Whole Foods.

I have a real butcher around the corner. And I have a backup butcher if the primary guys are closed. I have a great produce shop and a great seafood shop around the other corner. And all of them are WAY cheaper than Whole Foods. If Whole Foods is all you have, I guess it isn't too bad. But I also don't understand the concept of grilling with $20/5 pound bags of "special" charcoal or many of the other special products they have. Since I have alternatives I use them and enjoy it quite a bit. The only down side is that it mean making a few stops to get everything, and the butcher and produce places are cash-only. My wife goes to a similar place (but not a chain) and gets everything in one stop and has it delivered to the apartment. It is certainly easier, but it costs 10-20% more than it has to.

Thanks for the info, your pictures are what sold me on going. Belize looks amazing.

I am going for 3 nights and am trying to shoot for a limit of $160 a night for a hotel. It looks like I have many options. I would love to stay in a thatch hut, but I am a high Maintenance traveler, or so I have been told. I do best at Westins and W hotels.

Are most of the hotels on the island small? I noticed on tripadvisor that most of them were listed to have about 15-20 rooms.

I think this trip will be better than my ill-conceived trip to Managua, Nicaragua, which I was forced to cancel because my mom broke her femur 2 weeks before departure.

Yeah, I didn't see any hotels with more than 20 rooms. Next time we go, I want to try Cayo Espanto: http://aprivateisland.com

I heard a couple of good reviews of the Cocotal Inn (http://www.cocotalbelize.com/index.html) but don't know exactly where it is on the island.

Our one stop for a lot of stuff is Fresh Direct who delivers right to your door with very high quality stuff. The seafood and meats are head and shoulders better than at the Whole Foods stores that I have been to in various parts of the country (I have yet to visit one in NY).

However, for staples and other non-perishables, an occasional stop on my way home from the New Jersey office actually saves me about one-quarter to one-third off Manhattan prices for the same goods.

My brother likes to say, "whole food, empty wallet." Having been there a couple times, I agree.

My only complaint about Fresh Direct - and we do use it as well - is that it is at least a day until I get my food. I tend to do more just-in-time shopping to cover my needs, at least for produce/meats/seafood. Plus, I really enjoy the experience of going in to the butcher. Watching them cut and trim a porterhouse or a leg of lamb is really a great way to spend 10-20 minutes and witness a true skilled professional at work with the knife (and band saw).

IIRC DL seems to have most of the MD-90's based out of SLC.
