The railroads of the worlds show was a train wreck for no better phrase because they used the incorrect host. That geeky architech one of the channels uses for building bigger or what ever is entertaining, in part he's afraid of heights and machines seem to break on him when he's up in the air and he freaks out a bit.

Biggest complaint about all DIY shows is that they show people painting incorrectly. You cut in first then roll. You don't roll 2 feet away from the corners and then cut in. And I'm amazed that the final paint job is obvious by professionals and not the hacks that couldn't paint a 2'x2' plank.

I guess the reason I've always been happy with Discovery channel is that the only things I watch on it are Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, After The Catch (Rowe was way better than Ben Bailey), Extreme Trains (the host of that one is great....like a little kid with those trains), and the occasional Modern Marvels (no host). I guess if I gave more shows a chance, I'd see some real stinkers.

I know the geeky architect guy you're talking about....I kind of liked when he hosted that show about the building of the stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play. He had kind of an unspoiled view of things and seemed truly fascinated on the construction site (especially on the high steel).

The channel I have a real problem with is still HGTV (see my earlier post/rant on that one).

+1 I've been on one 777 flight in my life and it was EWR-IAH.

But he was really bad. And oddly enough, a lot of his badness centered around banking. He wanted all government business done only in gold or silver. The run on these caused a bank bank and the collapse of many banks.

He'd not be too happy being on a coin made of base metal. Kinda cracks me up.

We've had a lot of really bad presidents. Jackson also appointed Roger B. Taney (from my home county) to the Supreme Court, so he could later write the Dred Scott decision ...

That guy drove me nuts. I know rail foamers hated/dispised him and the entire show for that fact.

Wow the 787 delay is going to be long one.

Same for me. It was, however, quite a while ago.

I think there are many more attributing factors than just a 'run on the bank'

I personally like Jackson's stance on many issues, but I'd much rather have Jefferson (Thomas) :)

Anyone here have VOIP? We're looking to go DSL or cable modem only and use VOIP with our alarm system. Opinions and advice are needed and welcomed.

Well, CO has done the same. Try taking the escalator down at the 53rd St subway station. The entire way vestibule down is plastered with CO blue. (and that's a long escalator).

I'll wander over there.

And if you are talking about 53/Lex, that is one stinky station! :td:

Is your alarm system supposed to work when the power goes out? Because VoIP won't. I have Time Warner's VoIP package and I'm pretty happy with it.

VOIP

My alarm installer suggeted that I do not use the cable phone with my alarm, as they do not work well together. (Using FIOS would be fine ).

You should have joined the group on the 777 from EWR to SEA a few years ago. It was a mini-do in the air. I always keep an eye on such opportunities. Perhaps there will be a charter we can hop on the front or back end of this football season.

The day before Thanksgiving I'm flying UA LAX-IAD on a 777. I hope that there isn't an equipment change and that I can earn CO miles while doing it!

Most incumbent LEC's (the "Baby Bells) still offer a low-cost local measured service line (remember message units?) in some markets. Call your phone company and ask if such a line is available in your area. It's usually about half the rate of a flat-rate local line and as long as you aren't making calls on it is a cheap alternative and still works with alarm systems. What's more if you have it terminate to a working phone jack in your house you can use it as an emergency backup if the power ever goes out.
