SAN - East Coast redeyes are usually completely full if not overbooked. There are two that I know of, one on CO to EWR and the other on DL to ATL. I haven't taken that CO leg but the last time I took that DL flight, F was booked full, 68 elites on the upgrade list that were not upgraded, and six volunteers were given VDB compensation. YMMV.

In the case of xyzzy and I, we have the same laptop. And my agency won't get to replacing mine for another year or so.

The machine is a Latitude D620, which I have to say I've been rather pleased with.

I had one of those at my last job. Nice machine with good battery life (had the one with the big battery that stuck out the front) except for the display which I thought was meh. My clunky 2001 Sony laptop I'm on at the moment has a better screen.

And I'm about to buy a third one of those for mine.

E+ is that cat's meow.

When I was going through my US divorce I considered all airlines and how they stacked up against my travel habits and what they offered. CO made the most sense on paper but I was really resistant to it. Why? Because I despise the Northern Jersey crowd that are a bunch of CO fanboys (and girls). The people I work with who pledge allegiance to CO are people you don't want to be sitting next to. I was under the impression everyone that flew CO was like this, and I'd want to gouge my eyes out.

I really don't like NY/NJ and when I travel it's my sanity check. I didn't want to deal with an airline that had the NYC 'tude.

After lurking on the CO FT forum for a while I finally did a recon mission down to SAT and I realized that CO is actually a Southern airline. Outside of EWR the crews are great, the service is consistent, and it met my needs. And I can deal with EWR.

Here I am a couple hundred thousand miles later and I laugh when I think about my bias against CO. It was completely irrational.

Now, if only CO would implement E+ I'd turn into a full fledged fan-boy.

If I ended up coming to the realization that UA was the choice for me whether for personal travel or in the event that I had to fly for work, I would probably suck it up and buy the E+ annual pass. As if that's not an admission that my bias might be irrational. I'm large and I'm tall, so it only makes sense for me, and with annual E+ at what, $349? If I know that I'm flying 10 segments in a year, my comfort is worth a hell of a lot more than $35 per segment.

I'm already doing a little dance because one of my flights is already zeroed out for Saturday. Also happens to be the same AC type and airport that was weight-restricted Sunday (getting me $300 despite other unsold seats).

How do you tote around that brick? There's a reason our laptops are the same age (precisely the same model). And indeed it's largely functioned well (except the two HDD failures in the first three months). I got to borrow an 820 last week, which was even larger.

I carried a Precision laptop for over 6 years to multiple countries. Talk about a beast of burden. I even started to whine about having to climb two stories to my work (no elevator) as it was so heavy! :D

In my case, I own the machine and I have no good reason to replace it. It works fine. I can get a 60gb SSD for it for $150 or so. That seems to be a better use of my money than paying Dell for another year of warranty. I have to say, though, that choosing an extra (3rd) year of warranty in exchange for depot repair vs. in-office repair was a good one!
