The rental agency, Alamo, refused to rent me another car because I had damaged this one. Since then, I've only rented from Alamo once -- when I got them via Priceline. I don't think Avis has the same policy, but you might want to check before you turn the car in.

This happened to me twice with National cars. One time it was just like xyzzy's situation (hit and run) and the driver's side was mangled. Second time, I didn't see the column in a parking deck and knocked off the side mirror

Both times, I brought the car back to the National station at the airport, answered a couple quick questions, and was on my way with a new car. No muss no fuss.

Good luck with your situation.

I just used "taco farts" and "Parisians" in the same sentence when discussing UA. Yeah, that pretty well sums it up.

Bravo! That takes skill...

I know they are part of the same co. - but are the policies the same, in general? I always assumed that one pays more for National to get more service & flexibility. I use the AMEX Plat rental car insur. policy.

I'm not sure if things have changed with the rental coverage on credit cards. My understanding is that it covers expenses not paid by your insurance. In other words, your cool to leave the car but the card company is going to go after your insurance and then pay anything not covered. (most likely your deductable)
Me? Haven't paid any attention to it for years. My company has a rider on their policy that's first in line for coverage in the event of a shunt.
There again, haven't put a scratch on a rental yet. Fingers crossed.
Now was it Dan Gurney or Phil Hill that said, "Nothing else in the world can corner faster than a rental car."

Sure, but all you've done is close that hub to the rest of us.

It is actually a good deal for 180K RT in C for the amount of flying done.

With SQ KF points but not with UA MP points, right?

KF points, it may be a dual award on ua

Is the 180K price affected by whether or not they are KF miles that are being used for the redemption, and it's still true that EWR-SIN is available, no?

180k is kf points. And the ewr sin route does not qualify bc it is a different award for that cabin, although it looks like they will open it up soon.

My 3 year old Dell laptop is working fine, thanks in part to the new trackpad and keyboard I just had replaced under warranty. The warranty expires tomorrow. Should I pay $160 for another year?

That's one of the few good aspects. Maybe it's better now than it used to be since they relaunched it a couple of years ago. But still, I've never really enjoyed staying in any of their hotels, and I've never seen a lot of value in their rewards program.

naaaa $160 can go a long ways to buying a more powerful longer lasting batter laptop in 6 months.

Oh, c'mon now, guys! It's only a game. And it is called Air Mogul, not Air Philantropist :p How am I to build up my airline and outrun UniCon if not by taking advantage of every opportunity that I can? The whole concept behind alliance frequencies is that by joining an alliance, you open your own routes to competition from other alliance members while you create routes out of their hubs. I was one of the last to join the alliance, and alliance frequencies are 1st come, 1st serve - are they not? I took advantage of the ones that were open when others chose not to. It would only be unfair if the alliance had specific rules on how many alliance frequencies at a hub can be used by a single member. Our alliance had no such rules. Besides, sooner or later the frequencies would fill up, regardless. You'd still be competing with up to 15 routes out of your own hub. Does it really make a difference if those routes are operated by two other airlines or four? It's still the same number of competing routes.

Y'all are welcome to open routes from BOS, SFO, & AMS :)

All that said, I honestly hadn't realized how many HND alliance frequencies I was using. So if someone else wants in, I have a frequency out of HND that I'd be willing to trade.

Except for the squeaking of the sliding seats and the need to pull forward on the seat back to get it to move. :) They aren't all like this, but most seem to have inherited this problem.

I've wondered why CO has such issues with those seats making that awful noise. The ones I've encountered on other airlines don't seem to make the noise and also are much easier to raise back to the upright position.
