And for some interesting passenger stories...

What's the official policy for wheel-aboard oxygen tanks?

DL's area at JFK is so . The gates/terminal where CO used to arrive (by LA's gates) had a nice common area with food/shopping past security. Also, the OpenSkies/BA Terminal was pretty nice.

Feh.

Are there any other nearby airports that are less expensive?

The BA terminal is ok but for the low ceilings. The gate areas also are pretty small, but they can be avoided by using lounges. Low ceilings seem to be a theme at JFK except at T4.

I am not looking forward to at least a year (and possibly five) of shuttling back and forth to SHV on the weekends.

Fly into TYR and drive an hour? The drive from TYR/Longview to SHV never bothered me much. It was nice to finally get on an interstate after traveling up country roads from Nacogdoches.

Business Elite service was pretty bad.
The food was awful and they forgot about my gf's meal , then came to her and said oh you switched seats after we took your order so we gave away the pasta - - That was not the case my seat changed , not hers and it was well before they took orders.

The 763 was AVOD equipped , except that our 2 seats and the 2 seats in front did not work . I asked the FA a few times and he said "Oh it overaheats so just keep it off for a while"
That did not work and when I asked again he just said sorry and walked away , i asked them to reset it and they said no because everyone else would lose the movies they were watching.

That's too bad. I have had really good experiences in BE.

I had looked into this. IIRC, the rental car agencies in TYR close before the 8pm arrival gets in on Friday evening (the flight I would have to take to leave after work). I may just buy a clunker and station it at the TYR airport. :D

I am very mixed about JFK.

From NJ, I hate getting to JFK. From the city, it's ok depending on the time. The only times I go to JFK now are a) to hop on a PS flight or b) in the pursuit of new FM lines.

So, 99% of my recent travels out of JFK have been out of T7 which I actually like. The low ceilings and small building leave a bit to be desired, but to get from the lounge to the plane it takes five minutes and from the RCC you can see most of the gates to make sure your plane is there.

I do despise ground delays at JFK far more than at EWR. At EWR they suck, at JFK they suck to a whole new level. You would think an airport with four runways wouldn't be so hammered.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggg gggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I (sometimes) hate UA. E-Certs are nonrefundable once used, even if used on a refundable ticket. Looks like I'll be doing a Q-UP I didn't really need.

Depends on the type of E-cert, yes. The Type B E-certs re-usable so always try to get an agent to give you one of those instead of the straight E-cert. Skykits only come in the non-refundable variety unfortunately.

That's actually a good idea, depending on the fare differnce between TYR and SHV. That car might pay for itself in six months or less. Buy a used Civic or something that will last. Actually, maybe you should buy an old truck or something with a strong suspension that can handle the crappiness of Louisiana roads.

According to the TYR website, Avis closes at 9:45PM, National at 6PM, and Hertz at 10:30PM on Fridays. Hope you've got your Avis or Hertz memberships ready to go.
