That would effectively torpedo UA's last remaining vestiges of customer service. Good companies empower employees to solve problems, not prevent them from helping.

Granted, UA's current application of "customer service" is textbook stupid. A better investment would be to train employees to treat the customers like customers and not inconveniences and effectively root out the ones that created problems.

throwing certs at people does NOT equal customer service. people being 1k for 2 years on 100% vouchers = corporate diarrhea

Yea, UA's ground crew is the worst in the industry. I agree. However, as an 1K, I rarely have to deal with them. A phone call and going to RCC usually take care of the problem.

And I agree, complaints to UA is usually addressed by form emails unless you are an 1K. They usually will give you miles or e-cert to shut you up. I mean, CO does the same...they might address your issues directly, but it's not like they going to do anything to change. They will prob give you e-cert or miles too.

Yea, my decision wasn't solely on the FA's action. It's a combination of things. I just think UA suits my needs the most.

Agree 100%. Which is why I suggested UA retrain all of their employees on what customer service actually is.

But, limiting the ability to throw certs at people would only compound their problems and the customer perception of said problems.

No limiting vouchers limits the flow of free travel that makes the company go under faster, turn around and reinvest that in putting some US staff IN the ICC.

Throwing money at people isn't helping the problem, it is enabling it.

Since the front line reps don't actually have to be responsible they aren't. They know that customers will keep coming back since the flights are very discounted.

On a different note, I have 4,500 dollar coins sitting in my living room. Any suggestions for what to do this them? Sadly, it doesn't seem like there is any reasonable investment that I feel comfortable in right now.

Maybe I'll just go buy a lot of C stock and ride the waves. :D

I hate that seat because of all the .........s who cross in front of you during the flight. Actually, it becomes quite fun to put your leg up and obnoxiously tell people not to cross.

Still better than LH. I was in the lav when they distributed menu's coming back from MUC this summer and they 'ed at me when I asked for one. When they went to take orders I asked what the options were (because they never gave me the menu) and the FA grimaced and told me she'd come back. She did come back, after taking the rest of the J cabin orders and informed me that I will be having the spaetzle. That's all they had left.

I can't wait for CO to join Star so I can start flying SQ to FRA again.
That's German "service" for you.

On the plus side, I'll likely find some time to try out Allegiant Air's Degenerate Gambler Express SHV-LAS. That should make for an interesting FlightMemory line.

Love it. The Allegiant LAS flight (1 per day) is currently the only commercial flight operating out of FNL, which I experienced for the first time last week (dropping off a friend for that flight, not taking it myself). Very classy. I may just be remembering wrong, but that airport made ACK look like a major hub...

I am admittedly unfamiliar with these. Are these tied-in to T-Bills, and do they run the risk of becoming worthless should T-Bills become about as valuable as Credit Default Swaps? If we start printing our way out of debt, I have a distinct feeling that the Chinese will find a way to start dumping our T-Bills, which will make the present economic crazyness seem tame in comparison.

In a nutshell, the upside to TIPS is that they protect your principal against inflationary risks when inflation rises. The downside is that in the event of low inflation, they do not pay as much, and pay much less in the event of deflation, in which case your principal would be reduced.

"Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, or TIPS, provide protection against inflation. The principal of a TIPS increases with inflation and decreases with deflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index. When a TIPS matures, you are paid the adjusted principal or original principal, whichever is greater.

TIPS pay interest twice a year, at a fixed rate. The rate is applied to the adjusted principal; so, like the principal, interest payments rise with inflation and fall with deflation"

Pity you didn't buy last week when it was at 1.00!!!! You'd be looking at a 300% increase now!
