I am hoping the same, but now literally everyone is going to be Plat.

I just realized that I my upcoming trip to Europe will push me to Plat in a couple of weeks.

For those from IAH, I went to Gravitas last night and tried their "new" degustation menu, which is a simplified tasting menu that the chef selects. It is $35 for five courses and not everyone at the table has to have it.

Let me just say it is the most impressed I have been with Gravitas in a while. Their food was hit or miss for a few months and during the last mini-DO I was happy with the food but a little less than impressed.

The offerings were a gorgonzola and bleu cheese salad, a cold gazpacho, Golden Tile fish, a hanger steak with salsa verde, and a butterscotch bread pudding. Superb is the only way to describe it.

Both the fish and the steak were served with great sides, including an interesting concoction of potatoes pureed with acorn squash (the waiter thought I was a food critic after I picked out the ingredients).

My only qualm was the hanger steak was a little underdone IMO even though I like my steaks medium.

If you get the chance, a visit to Gravitas is in order.

Now if I had only booked the SEA-NRT fare I could have made Plat in one fail swoop (50k EQM on that fare + what I already have booked).

For me, on a hanger steak, it is more about texture than the actual possibility of getting a disease or the flavor. The steak texture was a almost tough because it had not time to release all of the juices.

Hell, maybe I'll go for 1K between now and June just for fun.

I see a lot of sky is falling posts about this DEQM thing, but it's only a months worth of flying. Outside of FT'ers building status, how many people are going to book extra trips during the next 30 days? Either you have infrequent flyers getting a few extra EQM that they're not going to care about (may some TPAC fliers will get status they would not have), or relatively frequent fliers that will be getting a bonus of about 1/12 EQM for the year (assuming an even distribution of flights).

Um, it's three months worth of flying - "Offer valid for qualifying travel flown between March 20 and June 15, 2009."

Interesting. Found a $1/sq. ft. apartment only a few miles from Downtown, within walking distance of The Menil/Museum District and Rice U. area. It even gets decent reviews on Apartmentratings.com. ^

Shame I didn't book that NRT trip for earlier in the year

Might have to go for plat on CO and whatever midtier is on UA, hmmm

Steph3n Mar 20, 2009 10:47 am

with the low costs of airfare now, and the increased overall costs of hotels. It is now cheaper for me to fly to work for a day and return instead of staying in a hotel.

I have just convinced the other managers of this and next to the CEO. It will be approved as it is my expense account. I envision a LOT of plat flying this year now, and next. Hopefully plenty upgrades but with DEQM I doubt it.

Agreed, especially with the plat threshold at 75K, at least with UA's 1K many domestic-only flyers tend not to reach that level with the DEQM promo.

Yikes, boss coming.

We are nannyless for a few days so BL JR and I are playing some games. We had to pick a name for her to create a fairy in Tinkerbelle land (or whatever it's called) and she picked OliviaOtter. Her name is not Olivia and no clue where she got Otter unless she's been reading the box I didn't know it. Homage to you oh great ALCO!

And shame for me that I booked it earlier. I think that Scott0607's second NRT run is inside the window, but I'm not positive.
