I'm rather surprised, but I guess they felt they'd lose too much.

Good thing I didn't drop that cash on a SYD ticket. Looks like a PHL-DUB or the like might be in my future instead.

I really don't understand it :(
But yea I signed up too. I cna't let others be plat and me sit at gold now for 2010 like I was planning.

I'd be super plat if they offered it through the end of the year with some J travel I have coming, but now it is time for.......Y bookings(or B)!

Well, hopefully they'll add some sweeteners for breaking 100K EQM at the start of next year.

Hrm, now to figure out how to get Silver while sitting in the F cabin and not dropping lots of cash...

I agree - this really doesn't make any sense to me. I was on track to requal for Plat anyway so I will just get there sooner. The downside, of course, will be the higher number of elites which (IMO) is not a good thing.

right now I feel I have to get to Plat or elite status is worthless. There will be a huge influx of silvers, basically one TPAC or 1 TATL with a domestic connection can almost do it for you. Of course there won't be much extra revenue for CO from this at least from me, I am just going to be booking my normal trips and a leisure trip I was already planning to Portland. I can get 2x of those now and be ensured Plat with my travel later in the year.

I wonder how public they are going to make this though. I bet that people who book through a TA or some corporate website will never see the ad.

No offense taken.

Regardless of how UA should run its company (I think I'll leave that up to UA), I have to think about whats best for me.

I moved to CO looking for more complimentary domestic upgrades, but I'm getting a lot less. This year, the upgrade percentage has been HORRIBLE. It's not just me. If you do a search, you'd find that many people are getting a ridiculously low rate~10-20%. I mean, I was on a semi-expensive coach fare, and I was like #25 on the list. Out of LAX, I HAVE TO connect via IAH. My only other options are CLE and EWR and those are just as hard to upgrade. There are too many Plats. Sure, I really enjoy the inflight products. CO meals are excellent. However, I actually find that a lot of the CO FAs are simply . As inferior as UA's meals are, UA FAs provide good service for the most part IME. And, UA really treats 1Ks like royalty. CO Plat is just like every other elite.

Last year, as an 1K with 110,000 BIS (not lite), and partially with thanks to FT, I never had to sit in coach, not even once. This year on CO, I've sat in coach plenty of times...

So, I really don't know why I need to stay with CO. If anything, I think Gold is enough for the 100% RDM and be eligible for B fare upgrades.

Does 110k BIS on UA give you enough CR-1's and 500's to upgrade one year's worth of travel (mostly transcon)?

It figures - the year that I already have enough travel planned to hit Plat by June irrespective of the double EQM promo.

I am truly shocked! I may book BL JR on a MR to get her to plat. I'm a little disappointed to be honest because there will be way too many plats, but CO did what they needed to do.

Maybe this will be the year of double plat level ;)

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Mar 20, 2009 10:11 am

Not looking forward to Plat dilution. Hopefully the down economy and overall reduced travel makes this a wash. I was looking forward to very favorable 2010 EUA rates on routes that generally aren't successful.

belynch Mar 20, 2009 10:12 am

winner winner chicken dinner.

Between now and when the promo ends, I've got:
ABQ x 2 = 8,000 EQMs
DCA x 2 = 2,000 EQMs
FLL x 1 = 3,000 EQMS

I can almost definitely sneak in a SAV, MEM (if SYR wins their games this weekend) and maybe a west coast or TA jaunt to ensure plat for 10.

I might also need to apply pressure on getting meetings set-up this spring in DE.

The double EQMs will almost 1 for 1 offset my reduction in travel.

I could not agree more.
