Paging fozz...

Any experience with the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in SAN? I'm looking for an inexpensive hotel close to SAN and this seems to fit the bill.

Also, I read somewhere that you can walk to/from SAN from this property (it's on Harbor Island right across from the SAN entrance) - thoughts?

My ears are burning. :)

It's a good property and was recently redone. It was the first property to receive the new Sheraton Link lobby so they were happy. It is literally across the street from the airport, right on the bay. Yes, you can walk from it to the airport. It's closer to T1 than T2, but the two aren't that far apart. I would imagine a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel to T2.

The location is awesome. If you want a good steak and some excellent mac and cheese, head down east from the hotel on the island to Island Prime.

It's close to downtown, though you would need to cab it to the Gaslamp as it's on the other side. It's near Little Italy as well. If you want a good dive bar, look up The Waterfront. Great burgers and it has the honor of SD's first liquor license.

oh great a $! trillion toxic 'asset' fund we have just created.........I really wish they would stop it with thebogus bull. There is no such thing as a toxic asset it is a LIABILITY!

Ooops - I misread the original question. I took SAN to be the city center (Gaslamp) and not the aeropuerto.

Good tip on the dive-bar, I'll need to check that out next time I'm in SAN.

Probably Spanair , it was all Y .

I read Krugman's piece on the situation and usually do not agree with a lot of what he says (especially since he's a dead set Keynesian) but he was spot on in his assessment and the bluntness of how he presented it.

It's lose-lose for the American taxpayer and a no-thought-required proposition for investors. If the assets fizzle then the taxpayer is stuck with the bill and the investor gets off without a scratch. If the assets pay off then the investor gets richer and the American people get nil.

So true. Though sometime I get amazed. A few months ago I made it from JFK to Princeton in 50 minutes at around 9:30am. I was shocked but I wasn't going to question it.

Now that they finally finished it. That project was so behind and so over budget. I have yet to stay there, one of these days i'll get down there.

I'm sitting in the basement of EWR because my EWR-IAD flight is delayed due to a flat tire. :(

Not to mention they are making us sit in the back for W&B issues. My first ride on a Q200. I hate sitting in the back of props.

Amazing.

I considered it, but this is just for a quick overnight as part of a PHL-SAN MR so I'd like to keep hotel costs down a little.

Hmm - maybe I will give it a try if the inside is in good shape (I can deal with the outside looking like a dump. :)).

I'll check out Island Prime as well - thanks!

I'm starting to seriously doubt whether now is a good time to make any sort of significant savings push (beyond six months or so of living expenses for emergencies). I have a distinct feeling that we will be dealing with hyperinflation in the not too distant future, which will markedly affect any savings made now.

ETA - I think I'll just continue on with the savings effort for now, but have a Plan B ready to go if/when inflationary pressures go haywire. No sense letting your savings get destroyed by inflation if you think you can avoid it.

The Canuck has become a bit of a hotel snob () and she said it was "one of her favorites." Right up there with the Grand Betragne (ATH), the Blue Palace, and the Hyatt La Manga.

And, as a SPG Gold I got upgraded. That happens about as often as halley's comet.

It's nice in a "classical" sense. A lot of care went into the restoration and it's luxurious without being glitzy or opulent. Definitely very different than the typical W or Westin.

Perhaps you could call Avis or Hertz and work out some sort of corporate discount for yourself.

I've put off any kind of investing until some of the dust settles. There is so much happening it is hard to tell which way is up. My savings plan is the same, put away bits in different secure accounts and a little under the bed, just in case.

I suspect that once the currency printing increases the hyperinflation will take place at an astounding rate. It's a page out of the 1970's history books.

My comfort is that I do not think this is a 1920s-1930s type situation. Though, if the administration decides to go back to the gold standard and starts throwing out prices willy-nilly, then we'll have a problem.

Four letters - TIPS (Treasury Inflation Protected Securities). Buy from Treasurydirect and avoid any brokerage fees, as well.

I also expect massive inflation next year, although not double-digit, given the Democrats' genius economic "recovery" plan that will bankrupt the country.

I'll assume you went to a place that calls its self Princeton and not Princeton Proper because that's impossible even on a Sunday Morning. Fake Princeton can be as much as 20 minutesaway from real Princeton. (Yes I'm from Princeton and get picky about the Princeton mailing address scam.
