That's actually a good idea, depending on the fare differnce between TYR and SHV. That car might pay for itself in six months or less. Buy a used Civic or something that will last. Actually, maybe you should buy an old truck or something with a strong suspension that can handle the crappiness of Louisiana roads.
There's also the option of taking the first flight on Saturday mornings, and racking up top-tier car rental status across multiple programs (or simply earning gobs of National Free Rental Days). |

According to the TYR website, Avis closes at 9:45PM, National at 6PM, and Hertz at 10:30PM on Fridays. Hope you've got your Avis or Hertz memberships ready to go.

I had looked into this. IIRC, the rental car agencies in TYR close before the 8pm arrival gets in on Friday evening (the flight I would have to take to leave after work). I may just buy a clunker and station it at the TYR airport. :D

You could always pass my grandfather $50 and he'll fly you from TYR to SHV in a Beechcraft Bonanza.

Paging fozz...
Any experience with the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in SAN? I'm looking for an inexpensive hotel close to SAN and this seems to fit the bill. Also, I read somewhere that you can walk to/from SAN from this property (it's on Harbor Island right across from the SAN entrance) - thoughts? |

I've never been inside, but saw it when I was there a few months ago. Looked like an absolute dump from the outside. |

That would be a hefty walk (but possible I suppose).

I hate getting to JFK.
Even though JFK is only like 10 miles past LGA, those 10 miles are horrific. When going to JFK I budget at least 2 hours (to arrive an hour before the flight) and I've never got it just right. I'm either absurdly early getting in or cutting it super close. Both frustrate me to no end. Plus, on the return, after sitting in an uncomfortable airplane seat for a few hours I hate sitting in traffic for 2-3 hours to get home. The Turnpike is no picnic either, but at least the traffic flows are a bit more predictable. And there's always the Parkway as a back-up. Have I mentioned lately that I hate living in NY? |
BTW
Im pretty certain that my Austral flight in Argentina( Part of Aerolineas Argentina) MD-80 aircraft was en EX Continental plane , the seats were in CO blue , the seat number signs were exactly the same , and they had the Airphones removed and covered up with a plate. I checked the Airfleets and they have many ex AeroMexico MD-80s but this one looked like an ex CO . Im not even sure that AM had the Airphone System on board their planes ever. |

i was right in the middle and they forgot my meal
Being not one to say anything I just sat there and then when they went back to the galley to begin prepping the meals they realized they had no order for me. I think all that was left was the mushroom (and cheese) stuffed portobello with mushroom sauce accompanied by a mushroom salad, served with mushroom soup. Still better than LH. I was in the lav when they distributed menu's coming back from MUC this summer and they 'ed at me when I asked for one. When they went to take orders I asked what the options were (because they never gave me the menu) and the FA grimaced and told me she'd come back. She did come back, after taking the rest of the J cabin orders and informed me that I will be having the spaetzle. That's all they had left. I can't wait for CO to join Star so I can start flying SQ to FRA again. |
