Sorry to hear. Definitely sounds like a hazard and you should return the car. The credit card coverage is usually supplemental to your personal coverage. Someone in the rental car forums would probably be able to provide more detail and a general time-frame where that car would be unavailable. I would also take photos to document that the only problem is the windshield before returning.

Photos will be forthcoming. That's the first thing I thought of. I posted the question here first. Perhaps someone else in the Box experienced what I am going through.

So here're some random impressions from the past week and a half:

Day 1: Got to fly on a Compass E175 & DL-liveried A319, both with NW crews in DL uniforms, stumbling a bit as they try to read through the new schpiels. EUA'd both flights. E175 F seats are REALLY nice. Typical NW  pitch, but the seat was rather comfy.

Day 2: Anyone who says EWR agents are the rudest - have you flown through ATL lately?? "Whadyawant!?" is a breath of fresh air in comparison with the treatment you typically get from most ATL gate agents.

Day 3/7: CM feels about 80% Continental, at least up front. The missing 20% is in the service (what, no refills?!?), very much  food (I've had better in Y on LAN), and lack of ceramic ramekins - the weird oily-looking sauces tend to come in little foil ones instead. But there was ice cream, even if not quite a sundae, on the 4hr MCO-PTY flight :) The hard product is typical CO, including identical seats, colors, and everything else in the cabin. The exceptions being blue pillows, nicer blankets, and an amenity kit (socks, mask, toothpaste/brush, & lip balm) on the PTY<->SCL legs.

PC in PTY is nice, with better free liquor than in the domestic ones (for example, you get Tangueray instead of Beefeater). The rest of it is typical PC, except there was no Rondele or Nutella.

SCL was pretty surprising. It is extremely clean, neat, safe, drivers obey traffic rules and always yield to pedestrians, and the whole city is pretty well kept and modern. Definitely doesn't have the same energy or vibe as Buenos Aires, but it's still nice to visit. Didn't get to see too much, but there are some pretty nice areas to stroll around, grab a drink or a bite, and relax.

BOG is just like you'd expect. Busy, energetic, with the most insane and/or skilled drivers I've seen to date. Worse than Buenos Aires even. How they manage to stay alive as they manically swerve from A to B is beyond me, and I live and drive in Boston.. Wonder if the lack of oxygen (BOG is @ 8400ft) has anything to do with relative lack of self-preservation

Will get to check out Medellin tomorrow, so maybe I'll have an update on that and Avianca.

IMO, the L1011 is the most boss looking aircraft out there. In terms of aircraft still in commercial service today, I'll stick with the 752.

Gawd did I love those L10s. DL, EA, and PA had them and they looked gorgeous and felt as solid as a rock. EA got rid of them early on and PA sort of let them get ratty inside, but DL kept them clean, bright, and shiny right to the end. I'll never forget the first 500 that I saw. It was in PA livery at JFK in the mid eighties and I must have sat and stared at it for 10-15 minutes.

And now, I too prefer that CO 752 to most other aircraft. I have taken it TATL about a dozen times, starting about 10-12 years ago (when CO took a stab at EWR-STN) and still love it.

Once they get the new BF seats, they will be the best a/c in the CO fleet, IMO. ...

That would make me unhappy because right now I find them to be among the most comfortable seats in the air. Once I jimmy the legrest to stay all the way up, it is sweet dreams all the way over the water.

The E75 F seats are indeed comfortable. I got to experience E75 Y for the first time on Sunday - I took a VDB from a CRJ, so I didn't clear - and found an appreciation for 5B. It has no seat in front and is where the aisle turns to aircraft center after F. Very posh for coach in an RJ, even if I had to board earlier to get carry-on and laptop space.

The SYD in J thread is muy interesante - would even consider going the long way on SQ.

Enjoying DEN up till now. On I-25 the windshield of my rental was hit w/ something large. There is a big crack and a little bit of the windshield shattered and came into the car. We're okay. The car isn't. I turned down all the optional insurance, but paid for the rental w/ my CO MC World. I want to turn the car in tonight and get something else. It is a hazard driving like this. Options? Opinions? Advice? Thanks.

I had a similar problem (hit and run while the car was parked -- leaving sheet metal sticking out of the side) once. When I discovered the damage I also discovered that a police officer left his card on my car. He'd already filled out a report! The rental agency, Alamo, refused to rent me another car because I had damaged this one. Since then, I've only rented from Alamo once -- when I got them via Priceline. I don't think Avis has the same policy, but you might want to check before you turn the car in.
