My boss called last night to let me know that the upper management put my name on a layoff list. He'll be fighting for me but it's time to dust off the ol' resume and find out what Austin has to offer. Sigh, I hate looking for a job.:rolleyes: |

Yikes, that's crazy. Likely administrators making six figures. Move back to Texas; craploads of teaching jobs around here. They pay a little better but the cost of living is certainly much more reasonable than New York.

It has nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with it being a private school. In the city.

Yes as there won't be a GRU-GIG flight once the IAH-GIG flight is introduced. I would be up for visiting GRU as well.

One of the first things my son wanted to know, after waking up from surgery, was if he was going to beep going thru the airline security line. Spoken like a true child of an airline employee.

I have talked to a few teachers in NYC and one that started last year made 45k with better benefits than I have. Ideally she would like to work in the public schools but the hiring freeze is holding her back. |

Are they apart of the hiring freeze
Send me a PM with specs of what your BH is looking to do (grades / concentrations, etc.) as well as whether or not she has her license moved over to NY. Regarding benefits, they blow away anything in the private sector. That's why taxes are so  in NY. As soon as we make it official I'm going to switch over to NYS benefits. They are, in a word, phenomenal. It's why although I resent paying as much as I do, and think they could be half of what they are, I pay my taxes with minimal . I'm getting them back 100 fold. |

The wife was offered a job yesterday working at one of the most prominent private preschools in NYC. The tuition is around 55k per year. The classrooms have 15-18 kids, a head teacher (masters degree and certification required) and an assistant teacher (bachelors and certification required). She would also be teaching 2 classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Guess what the salary and benefits are for the assistant position........
29k/year  NO BENEFITS, not even health insurance.:td: Who the hell is making all the money???? Shes going to accept and keep looking for a public school teaching job... I would assume the money goes to (1) infrastructure costs, (2) teaching materials, and (3) the school head's salary. As you know, the reason why people teach at private schools is not for the money. If you're lucky and get a job at a good elementary school in a reasonably well-off neighborhood, you will have 25-30 kids in the class with no assistant, and only a few of them will have various educational or social problems, and most will have a decent home life. If you're unlucky, you may as well be a social worker. |
