My boss called last night to let me know that the upper management put my name on a layoff list. He'll be fighting for me but it's time to dust off the ol' resume and find out what Austin has to offer. Sigh, I hate looking for a job.:rolleyes:

Sorry to hear about the job Mackieman. Good luck with the search.

Yikes, that's crazy. Likely administrators making six figures. Move back to Texas; craploads of teaching jobs around here. They pay a little better but the cost of living is certainly much more reasonable than New York.

I would but then my salary would be a third of what it is here, plus the opportunity isnt there for me in Texas. We can get by on my salary and I had planned on putting all of hers in savings to put toward a house so I guess its just going to take longer than I thought.

NO BENEFITS, not even health insurance.:td:

It has nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with it being a private school. In the city.

The Canuck makes significantly more than that and we live 15 miles north of the GWB. for thought. @:-)

That would make you a resident of NJ.

Yes as there won't be a GRU-GIG flight once the IAH-GIG flight is introduced. I would be up for visiting GRU as well.

I was actually thinking of the LAX-EWR-IAH-GIG routing. :p I would be shocked if CO permitted that, however.

Of course, I have been cleaning up lately and suddenly find myself with a stack of about 10 drink certs in stacks of 2-4. I thought that I only had 2-4. Apparently I was just keeping my stacks apart in various bags.

Glad to hear he's doing OK.

:td: Didn't they just move you to AUS?!
I can saw it sounds like you have an open and honest boss that cares about you, and didn't hide it till the last minute.

Are they apart of the hiring freeze, if not do you know if they are hiring? I'd prefer to move to the burbs anyway as long as my commute is under an hour.

I have talked to a few teachers in NYC and one that started last year made 45k with better benefits than I have. Ideally she would like to work in the public schools but the hiring freeze is holding her back.

Well, I just moved to AUS. They let me work remotely, mostly because my boss didn't want to lose me. My boss has horrible ADHD and is all over the map but he is a fantastic boss and I could work for him for the rest of my career if I had my choice. But alas, I don't. Looks like AT&T needs a technical vendor manager; there's a good place to start.

No, completely unrelated to NYC's budget cycles. It's a bit late in the year for hiring for next year but I'll speak to the blonder half and get back to you.

Send me a PM with specs of what your BH is looking to do (grades / concentrations, etc.) as well as whether or not she has her license moved over to NY.

Regarding benefits, they blow away anything in the private sector. That's why taxes are so  in NY. As soon as we make it official I'm going to switch over to NYS benefits. They are, in a word, phenomenal. It's why although I resent paying as much as I do, and think they could be half of what they are, I pay my taxes with minimal . I'm getting them back 100 fold.

Perhaps his aides have a really southern accent - Appalachia / Argentina are close :D

Don't know about NY but can say the same about being an employee of the State of Tennessee - they even blow away the level of benefits I received as an employee of the State of Maryland.

I know I would.

Having not watched SNL in 10-15 years, the only reference I could come up with is this one.

She would also be teaching 2 classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Guess what the salary and benefits are for the assistant position........

Who the hell is making all the money????

Shes going to accept and keep looking for a public school teaching job...

Mrs. Phudnik worked as a head teacher at a private preschool in NYC 16 or 17 years ago, and as I recall, she earned about that much, though she did have health insurance. Her salary increased by at least 50% when she moved into the public system.

I would assume the money goes to (1) infrastructure costs, (2) teaching materials, and (3) the school head's salary. As you know, the reason why people teach at private schools is not for the money. If you're lucky and get a job at a good elementary school in a reasonably well-off neighborhood, you will have 25-30 kids in the class with no assistant, and only a few of them will have various educational or social problems, and most will have a decent home life. If you're unlucky, you may as well be a social worker.
