I asked UA if they are going to rebook him and the customer planner says, no way, he is on two separate tickets and is on his own. So I rebook the man via SFOEWRCDG on our first morning flight. I contact his wife with the new flight information. The man was left checked in because you never know if he's going to make it. I call UA once again and his flight hasn't made up any time but we still leave him checked in. At 12:20 we unseat him and give away his F Class seat to the next person, which happened to be a non-rev. At 12:23 we close the aircraft door and we see the man running down the hallway, clutching his shoes, belt and small handcarry. We re-open the door and advise the man that his seat had been given away but he can sit in a nice aisle coach seat. I have no idea how he made it from the UA gates thru security to our flight in under 8 minutes but I'm glad he did. Gotta love UA for following those rules and customer service be damned.

IMO, there is not enough difference between Marriott Gold and Platinum that I would worry about it too much. I guess that the only real benefits from the step up that I can see are the EEOs (and I am one who does not usually have a lot of use for weekend nights and gives the coupons away).

I could be wrong, but I thought CO gave most of those gates back a few years ago. From what I remember, UA realized how convenient those gates were since you could walk to them and started bullying CO via DIA to release them.
